Patch antenna vs Yagi antenna

It comes with WRT54GL, DD-WRT Firmware, POE Kit, SMA-TNC Pigtail, Integrated IP67 2.4Ghz 17dBi Flat Panel Antenna / Enclosure and Mounting Hardware

I have only used yagi antenna's in the past and I am wondering whether this product will work well as a CPE...?

What are the pros and cons of a patch antenna vs a yagi antenna??

The Yagi needs to be very well adjusted between the two points. A patch solves this with almost the same gain as a yagi. I prefer the flat one.

A Yagi and Patch are basically the same antenna - just look a little different. The Beamwidth on a yagi is normally fairly large - I have one here which has a beamwidth of around 47degrees horizontal. It does not really need to be well adjusted between two points. Pretty much "point and shoot" if you ask me, I have three on my roof, currently connecting three seperate nodes.

*nods* to what Ryder said: the patch and Yagi* largely amount to 1x6 vs 2x3 ..it pretty much comes down to other considerations like practicality and/or aesthetics

*for the lower-end ones, there are higher gain Yagi's out there: they look a lot more like the archetypal terrestrial TV antenna.

so a 17dBi yagi will have the same effect as a 17dBi patch antenna?
