Paying so much for games

My point still stand why does steam give you the option to share games you are done with playing.

If it was so BAD why are they doing it?

It's a family sharing facility. And even when using it with friends, it's perfectly acceptable to use for checking out new games.

I've always maintained a very simple stance on the matter - don't consume entertainment without paying the creator of it.

If you're comfortable playing games knowing that the dev didn't receive a cent from you, then by all means carry on. I'm not comfortable with that though.

lol, PC gaming is going through an epic revival. Just look at the indie market and kickstarters and Divinity Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity. Who cares about 4k, yet? You can connect your pc to a television and a controller to your pc so we don't really need to sit in front of funny looking boxes anymore. Steam and nvidea also allow you to stream from a workhorse pc to a media box. Also, Carbonite.

Why would you want to buy your games new? Steam sales are epic and then you have stuff like Assassin's Creed Black Flag with all the patches - oh lawd I hate installing games and not being able to play immediately because patches - for R80 ronts at BT Games! Two years ago this was a AAA game.

But to each his own.

Not the point. Why didn't you wait for it to go and sale if you wanted to buy it cheaper?

That's my point. Good luck finding it at any price. It's one of the rarest cards around, and the waterblock is even rarer.

Hardly any PC gamers care about 4K. Just because it exists doesn't mean you need it. My next monitor will be 1440p because 4K is too demanding on hardware.

Yet it's brought up in debates often enough.

I've never come across a console gamer with a single controller. And you can't play online without a PSN sub. Even if you knock off a few grand for a secondhand PS4, you can still buy a great PC.

You still have to buy the same for the PC then. Don't artificially inflate prices.

The number of PC exclusive games dwarfs the number of console exclusives. But yeah, if you can't go without a particular exclusive then that will override sensibility.

Who cares about absolute numbers. Nobody lives long enough to play 1000s of games. One wants the best for oneself.

The general consensus is that DOA 5 is mediocre.

I think that "consensus" is in your head. Not that reviews mean much, this is not a science.

DOA5 has a bad rep outside of Japan because of the anti-boobs attitude of the prudes there, currently of the white knight feminist variety. But it's a very solid game. It can be easy but scales up well to be challenging enough. And the life like characters are the best in the business. The ratings are also great and the game is considered to be undervalued.

Maybe you should give it a go. But the PC version sucks. You'll be surprised how much better it is that games made with larger budgets.

Ha so you have a super rare card you got second hand to allow you to brag how affordable it is, and you're comparing it to a stock new console any Joe and his dog can buy.

What others choose to do in other debates is their business. The fact is 4K is in its infancy and 4K gaming is well beyond the means of most PC gamers. DX12 will make 4K easier thanks to much better utilisation of hardware, but we're still some way off from DX12 being the standard for games. Almost all current graphics cards don't even support all the DX12 features.

I'm not inflating anything. I'm comparing the real world cost you would incur if going the route of console gaming. You know perfectly well that pretty much no console gamer spends less than R10-12k on their PC and console necessities, so stop playing for time and accept that PC gaming is not half as expensive as you'd like people to believe it is. I would know - my disposable income increased permanently after I switched from PS3 to PC. The cost of games is significantly lower on PC. The new RRP of XB1 games is R999 ffs. And PS4 will follow shortly.

I'm not talking about shovelware games. There are loads of excellent PC exclusives.

DOA 5 is the lowest rated fighting game on Metacritic of all those we've mentioned. It's not just me - it is objectively worse than the others.

Graphics cards are sold at amazing prices every day on Carbonite. It just so happened that I bought a 7990.

And about secondhand purchases - I'm tired of stating that purchases that cannot occur new if secondhand was avoided are not the same as buying games secondhand. Games are cheap, and even console games are subject to sales.

I'm not advocating that people put themselves into poverty for the sake of buying new games or any other product. I've only ever said that you should do what you can to support the creators of the content that you enjoy. With gaming it is definitely possible for anyone to do.

So what is the deal with PC graphics then? Explain the difference to me. I haven't been a PC FPS gamer since GeForce 3 days.

Yeah but not every game costs that much. Dead or Alive 5 LR with Amazon courier shipping and VAT/Duties will cost R629.91.
One just has to buy when the games go on sale if one is on a tight budget.

This depends on one's taste. They are mostly pretentious sh-t. I've seen some of these games and I would not take them for free. Sorry.

Take the "Journey" aka a walking simulator.

That's not an objective metric. That's just a summary of opinions of a particular class of American gamers biased by many factors.

And yet it gets a 35/40 from Famitsu and Best Fighting Game of Gamescom 2012 among others.

I'm sure Justin Bieber also scores well on similar ratings. If you look at comments from gamers and reviewers the game is hardly mediocre.

So again, in your head.

I suggest you play it for a good while to make up your own mind. Also see that the game has lots of loyal fans who choose to play it over the sh-tty alternatives available. "FATALITY!!!!1" (The age rating and fear of wives/mothers moering the gamers must have a part to play here too.)

Yeah you have to buy second hand to get "amazing prices" to claim PC gaming can be cheap. You have to go through hoops and miss out on warranties possibly.

And about secondhand purchases - I'm tired of stating that purchases that cannot occur new if secondhand was avoided are not the same as buying games secondhand. Games are cheap, and even console games are subject to sales.

Buying second hand is not a luxury everyone has. You have to compare for new stock solutions if you want a proper comparison.

I think people should buy what they enjoy. Console beats PC in terms of Japanese games. Including it being region free one can import Japanese language games and for some games basic knowledge of the language and walk throughs are good enough.

Not everyone likes quirky Japanese games. That's fine. But let's not be disingenuous and claim that price is all there is. Price means nothing IMO. I personally will spend 2-3x the price of a game to get what I want but I won't buy a ton of these things as I don't have time to waste playing games. I would suggest people do the same. Quality over quantity. Buy the platform which you want to play your favourite games on and buy the thing you long for at full price. For me 9 out of 10 times it's Japanese stuff. I prefer console over PC.

(Don't go stocking up on mediocre titles because they're on sale.)

Pirate, upgrade, and pay for the games you love. Our currency just can't keep up anymore, we third world now #webehavingit

Also anyone defending a grand for a game is a literal moron.

/tfw a handful of games is worth more than the console itself :(

The crazy prices these days has made me a lot pickier when it comes to console gaming. The game had better be damn-near perfect for me to even consider it.

Sure. I only have two potential buys for next year for PS4. Both still unreleased.
