What others choose to do in other debates is their business. The fact is 4K is in its infancy and 4K gaming is well beyond the means of most PC gamers. DX12 will make 4K easier thanks to much better utilisation of hardware, but we're still some way off from DX12 being the standard for games. Almost all current graphics cards don't even support all the DX12 features.
So what is the deal with PC graphics then? Explain the difference to me. I haven't been a PC FPS gamer since GeForce 3 days.
I'm not inflating anything. I'm comparing the real world cost you would incur if going the route of console gaming. You know perfectly well that pretty much no console gamer spends less than R10-12k on their PC and console necessities, so stop playing for time and accept that PC gaming is not half as expensive as you'd like people to believe it is. I would know - my disposable income increased permanently after I switched from PS3 to PC. The cost of games is significantly lower on PC. The new RRP of XB1 games is R999 ffs. And PS4 will follow shortly.
Yeah but not every game costs that much. Dead or Alive 5 LR with Amazon courier shipping and VAT/Duties will cost R629.91.
One just has to buy when the games go on sale if one is on a tight budget.
I'm not talking about shovelware games. There are loads of excellent PC exclusives.
This depends on one's taste. They are mostly pretentious sh-t. I've seen some of these games and I would not take them for free. Sorry.
Take the "Journey" aka a walking simulator.
DOA 5 is the lowest rated fighting game on Metacritic of all those we've mentioned. It's not just me - it is objectively worse than the others.
That's not an objective metric. That's just a summary of opinions of a particular class of American gamers biased by many factors.
And yet it gets a 35/40 from Famitsu and Best Fighting Game of Gamescom 2012 among others.
I'm sure Justin Bieber also scores well on similar ratings. If you look at comments from gamers and reviewers the game is hardly mediocre.
So again, in your head.
I suggest you play it for a good while to make up your own mind. Also see that the game has lots of loyal fans who choose to play it over the sh-tty alternatives available. "FATALITY!!!!1" (The age rating and fear of wives/mothers moering the gamers must have a part to play here too.)
Graphics cards are sold at amazing prices every day on Carbonite. It just so happened that I bought a 7990.
Yeah you have to buy second hand to get "amazing prices" to claim PC gaming can be cheap. You have to go through hoops and miss out on warranties possibly.
And about secondhand purchases - I'm tired of stating that purchases that cannot occur new if secondhand was avoided are not the same as buying games secondhand. Games are cheap, and even console games are subject to sales.
Buying second hand is not a luxury everyone has. You have to compare for new stock solutions if you want a proper comparison.
I'm not advocating that people put themselves into poverty for the sake of buying new games or any other product. I've only ever said that you should do what you can to support the creators of the content that you enjoy. With gaming it is definitely possible for anyone to do.
I think people should buy what they enjoy. Console beats PC in terms of Japanese games. Including it being region free one can import Japanese language games and for some games basic knowledge of the language and walk throughs are good enough.
Not everyone likes quirky Japanese games. That's fine. But let's not be disingenuous and claim that price is all there is. Price means nothing IMO. I personally will spend 2-3x the price of a game to get what I want but I won't buy a ton of these things as I don't have time to waste playing games. I would suggest people do the same. Quality over quantity. Buy the platform which you want to play your favourite games on and buy the thing you long for at full price. For me 9 out of 10 times it's Japanese stuff. I prefer console over PC.
(Don't go stocking up on mediocre titles because they're on sale.)
