Do you guys really dish out R900 on a new release console game? i think it's madness! What an expensive hobby this is. Where do you get your new games for cheap, i know about BT games pre order pricing, but its still so expensive.

Takealot pre-order is usually a bit cheaper, plus a voucher.

the cost of having a gaming pc and also the hassles it has is not worth it for me. console gaming is my favorite.

You can get some money back from selling your console games to e.g. BT Games. They don't buy PC games. So work that into your final cost.

I only buy digital and game share on xbox one, so it's half the price. I also normally buy from the xbox store where the games is the cheapest and where I have a valid payment method. e.g. from the Hong Kong store

That's why I started waiting for games to get cheap on the PS Store. Just a few months after the release you can get massive discounts, especially if you PS Plus subscriber. And there are those free monthly games, which are mostly terrible, but hey, it's free.

They offer peanuts (R150) for a brand new PS4 game. I would rather use it as a coaster.

Yep! If its a game I really want. Or trade games on SAGamer, check Gumtree or Cash Converters/Crusaders.

What hassles?
Also calculate in the higher cost of the games & online subscriptions over the life of the device.

I've been a PC gamer for years now and I have no idea what you're talking about.

The new RRP for XB1 games is R999, and PS4 is about to get the same. Think about how much you would spend on a PC even if you didn't play PC games, then just add what you'd spend on console hardware. You'll probably be well over R10k if you did the maths. Then just buy a nice secondhand gaming PC with that money on Carbonite and you're sorted.

PC gaming vs. console gaming isn't even an argument when it comes to cost - PC games is significantly cheaper. I would know - my disposable income increased quite a bit when I sold my PS3 and upgraded my PC for gaming. Then you consider that PC games run at 1080p easily, have better graphics, better performance, a much larger selection of games etc. and it becomes a no-brainer.

Also, you only need to upgrade a gaming rig once in a blue moon.

^This.

I bought madmax + the ripper from g2a.com about a month after it launched for a little over $10.
The price don't always drop so fast, i had to wait a few months for lords of the fallen to go below $20

Just don't buy the Deluxe/Ultimate editions of Star Wars : Battlefront from EA , IT's A TRAP!

On a side note you can buy console games on G2A/Kinguin too...

Just checked out the pre-order price of Black Ops 3 on PC R699? What madness is that.

I remember when new PC games cost R299, not that long ago...

This.

I've made many deals via SAGamer. Guys get to know you, if you're a good buyer/ seller you can get a good rating then it becomes easier.

And for swaps too.

Games aren't that expensive if you work on the basis of cost per entertainment hour.

A brand spanking new i5-4590 CPU + R9 380 4GB GPU + 8GB RAM + 1TB HDD based system will come in at under R9k.

If you go second hand on carbonite you will get a lot more.
