Theres this guy owe cash, let's say R600, he owes me R200 but he forgot that he owes me. Do give him R400 and explain if he asks or hand him the full R600 and pray he remembers Like I said, uncharted territory

Just give him R400 and tell him it's minus the R200 he still owes you. Simple. Not exactly uncharted territory.

It is simple. You give him R200, partially settling your debt. Then he gives you the R200 back, settling his debt. Then you give him the R200 back, settling the difference of what you owed him at the beginning minus what he owed you. Win-win-win situation.

It depends on why you owe him R600. If, for instance, you employed him for a job, and the R600 were for wages, you would not be able deduct the R200 without a signed acknowledgement of debt.
