I have been using my Telkom Mega 100WR2 Router for a few months now without any problems. This morning however, I decided (for reasons that, in retrospect, doesn't seem worth it) to upgrade the firmware as posted in this very forum.

This gave me problems with my WiFi connection though, and instead of trying to fix something I didn't know how, I just decided to downgrade back to the original firmware. (I have a second computer that is connected to the router via ethernet cable, so that's how I connected to the router. )

This was however a big mistake, because after reverting to the original firmware, I cannot connect to my router at all. I cannot open the web interface, even through the ethernet cable, so I cannot change any settings, or set up my ISP, etc. I tried to reset it manually via the reset button at the back of the router, but there is no reaction. The program on the setup CD that comes with the router doesn't detect my router.

It's not totally dead though - my network connection claimed to have limited or no connectivity. I changed my network adapter's setting manually so that it can maybe connect to my router in this way, and it seems to have made a solid connection, yet my router's web interface remains out of reach. The router can normally be accessed by 10.0.0.2 , so I changed my adapter's settings to:

IP address 10.0.0.3

Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway 10.0.0.2

DNS Server 10.0.0.2

I don't know what else to try, and I cannot seem to find more information online. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks

jeppe - that will be difficult to do if he can't access the web interface.

to the op, what happens when you do - ping 10.0.0.2

Can't you access it via the usb port, as far as I can remember that router has a usb port.

LOL!

If you are running windows, press the windows button and R together, press the windows button first (on your keyboard) hold it in, then press R.

Now, type in cmd at the run box.

Press ok or enter

Type in at cmd: ipconfig

Look at the list by scrolling up and down, it should be the first part of the list, your default Network Adapter where the router is connected. Look at default gateway. Write down or copy that number and enter it in your browser like you would normally.

Enter username and password and go from there.

If you manually set the connection, you might need to assign it automatically again to connect.

Ciao ;)

teraside: Thanks for the information! I haven't been succesful though... I ran ipconfig, but the field next to default gateway is empty. I tried to set the default gateway manually under my network adapter's TCP/IP settings, so that i might connect to my web interface through that address, but it didn't work. Something tells me I'll just have to take it back to Telkom, but we all know how promt their service is.

milomak: When i pinged 10.0.0.2 it says destination host unreachable

mh348: I have also tried to use the USB port, but with the same results.

Thanks to all of you for your trouble. If I do get my router fixed before my venting session with Telkom, I'll definitely post to help other victims such as myself.

I had a VERY similar problem with my Mega 100WR2.
I upgraded the firmware and then later that night my PC couldnt connect to the router and all and what ended up being hte problem was that my LAN port was a bit doddfy, what I did was remove the LAN cable blow into the LAN port at the back of the PC and then I opened up my PC and touched the capacitators around the LAN port and moved the LAN port around a bit (like see if its wobbly)

Try that, reset your router and then see if you cant connect. Make sure your network is on auto obtain IP.

Plug the router into another pc and try the steps above again. If you manually set IP addresses etc. the router isn't going to connect with your pc.

Set everything to default and wait for it to connect, if it doesn't, restart your pc and see if it does.

Thanks again to everyone for your advice. I tried but it did not work. I should also mention that I did try to use the hard reset at the back of the router, but it didn't have any effect.

So in the end I took it back to Telkom this morning. After being on the phone for 30 minutes just to get a reference number, they replaced it. At least I didn't have to wait for a repair!
