PC case fan setup (Advice Please)

Back should be blowing out :O

Side should be blowing in.

Someone search these forums for a long winded post I wrote few months back about air pressure please. I explained everything perfectly.

sorry can't find it, but you recken postive airflow decreases dust collection?

Absolutely! Provided all your intake fans have dust filters, and the case is a positive pressure ALL the time. Having fan controllers could screw up the pressure if you adjust it so that your exhaust is more than your intake.

wikipedia disagrees with you AFAIK (PC cooling) but I'll give it a try
I assume I should put the choice filter on the intake part of the fan?

But the theory applies to all cases :D I still can't find the original post of it. Blergh. But hopefully the advice I've given you is usefull.

Wow.. that's pretty interesting.

So he had the top fan blowing in it seems? And it also looks like if you have a positive air pressure, you don't need a rear exhaust fan?

Pretty much.

I'm still sorting out my setup, but the key is that I need to seal off the sides on the CMStacker 830. Air just leaves those empty sides.

I actually exhaust my case air out the top blowhole and sorta through the PSU. Air comes in across a radiator. I'm using just a single 14cm low down on the side of the chassis, so all that goes up to the top. I do believe the radiator overpowers the flow from the low side fan and those empty sides help not one bit. Once the sides are sealed though the side fan should be doing its job.

Also, I don't think one would need the rear fan on that setup because of the alignment of the CPU fan. Positive pressure and moving air should keep warm air leaving through open slots, etc. If you had positive pressure and no air movement you'd be seeing some bad temp issues, I reckon.

That's pretty hectic.

I have the CM 690.. I exhaust air out the top and the back, and the right side panel with the 80mm fan.

Bottom mounted PSU so have that pulling in air from the bottom and being exhausted out. It's on its' own little air system. I also installed another 12cm fan in front of the mesh bezels to support more intake from the front..

So all in all, I have :
4 x 12cm blowing in
3 x 12cm blowing out
1 x 8cm blowing out

I THINK my pressure is positive.. Using a fan controller so all my intake fans are on mid, exhaust on low.

Yeah.. The way my CPU is aligned is the same. The air from the second front intake fan I installed is blowing directly into the CPU. The back exhaust fan is about 5cm away from the heatsink. It's going with the flow if you know what I mean.

*edit*

What case do you have? I wanna check it out in it's entirety.

The best cooling I noticed once apon a time :) was when I'd forgotten to put the left side panel back on.

That's sound too noisy for me. :)

The CMstacker830 has only 1 position for the PSU. The air coming out the PSU feels minimal.

I initially had 3 12cm fans on the side blowing in, a 30cm tube fan on the edge of the motherboard blowing in and across the board, then a 12cm in front of the drives. At the back I had the H50 radiator pulling air out. All on controllers, but they eventually got to me.

I have sinced ditched that setup. The tube fan is gone. I now pull cool air into the case across the radiator and this is just below the PSU. There's a 12cm on the top next to the PSU where I get air out. There's a 14cm low and to the rear on the side bringing air in. The 12cm on the front of the case remains for drive cooling, but after it gets passed the drives it's pretty much got no more oompf.

Temp wise, nothing much different to the original setup. Only motherboard temp is up slightly, but that's not a accurate figure to judge by. I am only missing proper flow across the motherboard which is why I want to seal the sides to keep the air in and flowing to the top. Just need to get back into the garage next week on clean up those aluminium plates.

:D I did that this passed weekend when it was so damn hot. The temps came down a bit. Then I closed it up and turned the fans up slightly and got the same result.

And said hello to spiders, dust bunnies etc?

Gecko's too, so it's no real solution but I did go ahead and drill a grid of holes into the top of that panel. On a side note, the only difference I notice with having the right side panel fan is with the GPU temperature.
