PC cleaning

I originally looked at compressors, but R1400 can by plenty of compressed air cans...
It can also pump your tyres, blow out your engine bay, clean up after other diy work and much much more.
The blowers are ok but not particularly powerful. I use one around the factory when there is no air available for preventative maintenance but compressed air works so much better.

Dead serious
Havent encountered any issues before
Guess Im either lucky or the paint brushes Ive used are natural hairs and dont build up and static. No idea. Been doing it for 30 years now
Also done many times for dirtier boards, hell I've even given parts 70-90% alcohol baths without issues (obviously not hard drives and such).

Why would there be water in hose? If you're not using it for anything else.
Air contains water droplets, when you compress air water forms in the tank.

Most compressors have a screw at the bottom for you to drain the water out.

Yeah but you don't leave the little hand pump thing compressed. You pump it up use it and leave it.

Get yourself a small compressor. ryobi 25 or 50 liter or similar. look for one that comes with all the accessories.
They are super handy from basic cleaning to spray painting.

Yup
My favourite at work is Wurth Rust Off
I use it all the time and so far nothing has ever blown up or failed
Just spray it all over the circuit boards and it self cleans, Occasionally I will go in with an old toothbrush as well if there is stubborn dirt.

Love this stuff

'cos when air is compressed in a tank, water vapour is created. This builds up in the compressor's tank over time, then is released when you use the air hose. That's why all compressors have drain cocks on their undersides. Spraypainters use moisture capture filters on their airlines for this reason.

If you are planning on cleaning your PC with an air compressor, then please remember to tie down your fan blades to stop them from taking off and busting the bearings!
Agree 100%
I get the moer in when I hear those fans about to take off by stupid incompetent technicians servicing our gear. They think it is a big joke hearing the fans spin like that

Not to mention turning them into little DC generators, pumping nasty volts back in to the 'board and blowing #### up. Rookie error 1.01.

I assume the 12V ones meant to be used with a car lighter socket are useless and should be ignored?
That leaves the R1300+ ones, which is a bit steep.

A compressor does sound like the best option though.

Check out your local swap shops, seen them for much cheaper 2nd hand.

You guys clean your PCs that often?

I've currently got an air purifier pointed at mine due to crypto mining which appears to be helping with dust too (well duh it's hepa filtered air)

About once a year, and the PC is usually noticeably quieter afterwards.
Recently my GPU developed a noisy fan bearing, so cleaned it out while I replaced the fan.

I also want a general purpose air blower to clean electronics and stuff where a duster can't reach.

Where did you get a GPU fan replacement?

$30 for the 3 fans, $44 for shipping with Aramex. Expensive, but seeing that I won't be able to buy a GPU any time soon, I decided it's worth it.

And I here I was about to purchase a little 12V compressor :( similar to one in attached pic.

Looked after IT hardware for 18 years at two schools, I have blown out over 3500 PCs in that time. No damage and they all benefited from the operation

Worse was a shop's three PCs. They all smoked and what came out was truly noxious

I've always used a round paint brush and a vacuum cleaner. Never even thought of static and overspinning fans....hmmm.
