My network administrator told me there has been some heavy traffic for the last few days from my pc. I ran spybot and AVG but nothing was found. I can see alot of data transfer when I click on my connection even though no programs are running. If I try to disable the network connection the pc freezes. I have disabled auto updates, remote admin etc.
The IT guy said the traffic is mainly to a Microsoft site.
I'm stumped- please help

Restart PC in Safe Mode, run anti-virus.

Look at processes running on PC, try to identify unknown processes. (Ctl, Alt, Shift)

Run MSconfig.sys, go to startup tab and look for unknown progs and disable them.

Had similar problem a month ago. Please go to Microsoft website and download "Windows Malicious Software Tool Remover" to kill whatever virus has infected your PC. Good Luck.:)

And download TCPView to check exactly what process is using the network and what the destination address and port are
