ok so if you could please read this thread

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?218876-ATI-5850-with-Intel-Q9550/page6

the long and short of it is this...

I bought a 5850 and Im getting 16000 on default settings in 3dMark06, and Brawler is getting over 18500

How the FACK is this possible?

CPU limitation?
Chipset (Asus P5N-D) limitation?

I really need your help here. I didnt pay all this money for my PC to run facked up

Just skimmed through the thread so if I missed anything, feel free to point it out.

I noticed Brawler has 4096MB RAM, do you know what the clock speed of his RAM is and what yours is compared to his?

Could be a number of things, really. RAM and then CPU could be my guess if everything is roughly the same otherwise.

Could also take into account that the manufacturer of your 5850 might have marginally lower clock speeds than the manufacturer of Brawler's?

he is going to post details now, i hope!

I have 8GB DDR800 4-4-4-12 CL2 and I have the Sapphire Toxic, so its running factory OC'd already... So mine is either faster, or the same speed probably.

ooo... Nice latency :p And I take it that's DDR2-800? However, I noticed from Brawler's sig:

AMD Phenom II 965|ECS 790GXM-AD3|Corsair4GB|CorsairHX650|Asus 5850|2TB|CM 690|HP w2207h

His mobo (ECS 790GXM-AD3) is a DDR3 mobo. So that might be your answer :p

Corsair Value Select 1333Mhz 2gb x 2 in dual channel.

I want this...

Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C7 , XMS 3 , with heatsink , 7-7-7-20, 2 x 2Gb/2048mb kit - support Intel XMP ( eXtreme Memory Profiles ) , ddr3-1600 ( PC3-12800 ) , CL7 , 1.65v - 240pin - lifetime warranty

Don't worry about 3D Mark scores man, i'm sure you will kill any game with that card even @ 1920x1080, and that's all that matters.

don't spend too much money just to improve your 3dmark score

erm.. no.

Im quite particular, and if that scores reflects the a loss in power in the game the it was a total waste buying this card

Even IF I dont do anything about it... I still NEED to know where the problem lies. My bet it with the whole mobo (chipset) and RAM combo.

So I found this review...

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/asus_m4a79xtd_evo_motherboard/6

check the 3dmark06 score.. same as mine! But they running a nvidia 8800GT LOL :D

Seems my hunch is right, its the CPU/RAM combo that is the problem...

Got a mate bringing his PC around tonight, gonna do some testing...

Brawler, might not need to bother you this weekend mate. Though, if you still want to test crossfire we can still do that no problem...

you guys wanted to xfire those babies?! haha do that!

yeah I still want to try xfire although not keen to spend another R3,5k..

you reckon?

my mate has DDR3 with a AMD tri-core BE... so lets see what that comes up with

but your Q9550 is a quadcore  3dmark loves quadcores so your q9550 should rape it. Will see if I can come around this evening.

yeah I know, but Im impatient... especially with this kind of thing! If you come around tonight, I'll throw in a free pizza! :D

Go and compare those scores online. You will then be able to see where the diffrences is.
Remember, 3Dmark includes CPU scores as well, which can make a HUGE diffrence in the overall score.
