Hi,

I have tried just about everything there is. My pc won't boot. It starts up, but wont even show the bios nor beep. It started out by switching off completely when entering windows. Now it does pretty much nothing but a blank screen, fans spin (including gpu fan). I tried changing ram, disconnecting cables, hard drives, DvD Rom drive, you name it. Reseated CPU, checked all connections and even changed the power cable. Any ideas? What are the symptoms of a blown cpu? Will it smell at all? What else could I try?

Thanks!

All the components are good quality; no no name brand hardware.

Don't have a spare one lying around. Could it be the psu? Everything gets power, everything switches on but no screen and sounds softer than usuall

Order of checking:

~ PSU
~ CPU and heatsink mounting. Check the fan is spinning.

~ RAM, but you would most likely get error beep codes.
~ PCI / AGP /PCE-E cards but once again you would get error beep codes.

If no error beep code, the CPU fan is spinning and another PSU still gives no joy then Motherboard is dead. It happens alot.

This is rather disappointing, after buying a gigabyte motherboard and "assuming" they were of excellent quality. I'm let down yet again...:(

Still need to be sure though, so I guess I'll send it in to be tested.

Yes it was, flawlessly until now. It just randomly switched off, then it got more severe until now (happened in one day). It won't show anything on the screen when switched on.

Yup, sounds like a faulty PSU

Seems it was the psu. Not sending power to the 4-pin connector, whatever its called. Anyway thanks for the help guys.
