Hi guys, I'm not an IT / PC guy so hopefully I can get help here. I have an old desk top pc (2006) which has an Asus P5GD1-VM motherboard. now unfortunately it crashed on friday and after our IT guy said we can try do a repair with the XP SP3 disc which only partly worked as we no longer have COM PORTS and the MS SQL is also screwed up.

for us here at work the serial port is vital and to get our software running correctly we need to get the MS SQL data base working. we cannot format the Hdd as there is a licence linked to it :(

I no longer have the original motherboard disc. Is there a way to get the pc working again properly?

I did google Asus and the P5GD1-VM but am not sure what to download.

thanks

You can try the Intel(R) Grantsdale-G Chipset software Installation Utility under the Utilities sections for that motherboard on the Asus site.

What license are you referring to?

ok that showed me that the 2 ports are gone in the device manager - just a yellow ? in their places.

would a windows update help?

Did they come back as yellow ? (Unknown device) after being removed and rescanned? If so then the drivers are required, download the Chipset drivers which ponder recommended.

its the licence for the CAM software we run on that pc. nothing to do with MS.

Is there no way to extract the license with a utility or something? Can you not ask the vendor for the license key?
