Hey guys.....

I need advice quickly. I now just installed a other CPU in my system. When starting the pc, all fans and lights go on but the screen doesn't come on and there is no beep letting me know it's posting.

Could cpu cause the system not to post or is it something else. Need to know quickly before I strip again and put the old cpu back.

Thanx guys

Yes, the CPU could certainly cause your machine not to complete the POST.

So that means it's damaged? It's a second hand cpu and likely means the seller pulled a quick one over me then :(

If you are changing the CPU I assume it is a newer revision / later model. It's possible that you first need to update the BIOS to a version that supports the newer processor.

Just a guess without more details.

And it could be with the new CPU the current BIOS settings are incompatible, so try a reset to default.

Hi dualmeister

I had the Athlon ii x2 245 2.9ghz and replaced it with the Athlon ii x2 255 3.1ghz... My bios is the latest bios and I don't suspect it is the bios as these cpu's are basically similar but for the ghz

Ok so I put the old chip back...

Still the same. So must've hurt something because it was all working perfectly this morning before opening up for the first time.

Is the a way I can test my hardware without having another pc to test it on? I hope it's the mobo or memory that's buggered coz it's like 2 weeks old and under guarantee. If it's my gpu then I'm in my chops... Ai wat.

Any ideas guys

Did that DanH... I pulled the gpu and used the onboard graphics, still nothing. I used one ram stick in different slots then the other stick as well, still nothing.

Could I have hurt the mobo?

Sure.

Best bet is taking everything out the case and assembling the PC on something softish with anti static.

First start by trying to get your old CPU working. Check there are no screws between the board and the case. Unplug everything (including front panel USB and lights, etc) except the things you need to get a post screen; leave your hard drive unplugged. Reseat your RAM. Make sure your power connectors are exactly how they were when you started changing your CPU.

Ok I've done all of the above. Mobo out of case and connected the 4 pin power, 24 pin, 2 pci-e power. Reseated the ram. Done everything. Booted pc without any ram in and got beeping sounds. Insert the ram again and back to square 1. No posting and monitor not coming on....

I'm really confused now. It's not the first or second time I've swopped out cpu's or other hardware. Did everything the same as I usually do. So what could have happened today of all days

So the PC, with 1 x stick of RAM at a time, does not POST/beep at all?

Check RAM sticks for any damage. Check RAM slots for any damage.

Check the CPU socket for bent pins.

Test a different PSU.

Yep... Does nothing with the ram in.

Well looked at the modules and nothing looks off nor the slots.

Tried a diff psu now and still the same

lmao... I just sold my other board. Can kick myself right now. Anyway I'll take the board and memory to the store as it's only 2 weeks old. Hopefully it's one of the 2. If it's the cpu or gpu then I hope santa noticed I was a very very very good boy this year. Though I don't think it's the cpu because even with my old cpy it's still doing the same thing
