Yep, some boards are designed to be just office PC's with no good reason to overpopulate and make them more expensive. That's also why I mentioned the MSI board. Of course there's better boards than that one even from Asus.

@OP A bit strange that the ECS board is cracked, what chassis is it mounted in and how much does the backplate buckle under pressure? A thin guage chassis is not good.

The Msi board is very good value for money, bought one for a file server recently and was very impressed. boot time is great and board has good layout as well.

You see my friend did the fitting for the first time and by some way cracked it.I'm also dumbstruck as to how he got it to crack. So I sold him my ECS and fitted the mobo to his case on my risk and the thing worked like a charm.

It was a thin gauge chassis.

these 2 mobo's,do they support pci-e v2.0 or 1.0?is there a huge difference regarding speeds and can you recommend a g31 mobo with pci-e v2.0?

Just checked the ASUS manual, it doesn't specifically mention v2.0. TBO this hasn't been an issue yet. Only other mentionables are 5000hrs VRM solid capacitors, 1600FSB (o.c.) and DDR2 1066 (o.c.)

The MSI I don't have in stock so can't check that.

ECS Motherboards are about the worst I have come accross

Asus or MSI like Drake2007 said.
