So my friend lent me his old gpu (radeon hd 4870) this is the first graphics card i have plugged into my pc. I put it in everthing is working and im trying to find drivers for it but my pc is picking it up properly. So i switch pci slots and plug everything back in and my pc does not boot. The psu makes a tiny noise so i know its on its non modular i dont think any cable is broken and i checked that everything is plugged in properly nothing smells like it has burnt and i have tried booting with everything unplugged and only one ram stick but still have no clue.

Specs

Asrock Z87 extreme 4
Mushkin 8gb 1888mhz
Intel i7 4790k
Corsair cx750w

Any help would be much aprreciated

The 4870 was a terrible card. Unnecessarily power hungry and ran ridiculously hot. The only thing worse than a 4870 is a 4870x2. There's a good chance your onchip GPU will be faster than that old dinosaur. :)

Does the PSU fan spin up? Have you tried resetting the BIOS, all hard drives unplugged etc?

Also, does it power up without any RAM?
