Hi there,

In the last week or so, my pc seems to be dying :(

I first noticed it while playing a game of Dota2, that everything was really laggy, and I thought it was my internet. Then I started noticing how even opening folders etc seemed to have a delay.

This has never been a problem for me at all. As I am sitting here now, I have nothing open besides steam and this forum, yet my pc is using 2 gigs of its RAM??? The cpu usage is spiking from 0%-20% aswell.

When I am in a game or something, the cpu usage is going from about 10% to 70%.

I have installed an anti virus, updated it, scanned everything. I also downloaded spybot search and destroy, which found some stuff and cleaned it, but nothing has changed. It is still just as bad.

Any1 got any ideas?

Check you HDD for starters.

Boot off a Linux LiveCD and see if you experience similar issues.

Install Moo0 system monitor. Really a great tool to show you what is bottlenecking your system. Great place to start looking.

Ok I used the windows maintenance tool thing, which told me that there was indeed a problem with my HDD, anyway, it told me to restart and it did a check disk thing, which then told my it had fixed the issues.

It is still almost as bad as it was in the first place. The RAM seems to be using about 1.8 gigs now while idling, and the cpu is still spiking alot.

Would a dying HDD really cause so much of a problem with the RAM/cpu?

Yeah it's probably your HDD dying or you have a cooling problem, although If your system isn't locking up or crashing, then it won't be a heat problem.

Might be a good time to start saying your goodbyes to your HDD...

Alright unskinnybob, I downloaded moo0.

Not too sure what to make of the info it provides though.

Look at the red bits. Navigate around, start programs etc. Try and identify a pattern. Moo0 identifies whatever is choking your system in red.

You may also want to run a hardware level scan of your HDD. Do you have a SATA drive? Most BIOS these days have a means to scan SATA. Just read what your BIOS says - don't go wiping your drive.

I have 2 drives, the drive with windows etc is a SATA, the other is a pretty old IDE drive.

When I was navigating around in folders etc, both of them cause mooO to flash red quite alot.

So that means that both of them have all of a sudden decided to bomb on me? :(

RAM or your processor is over heating.

Get Core temp, anything over 70 is dangerous, over 80 you found the problem.

Also, check your ram.
