Hi guys
Looking for a little help.
Im running on windows7 pro and and recently got mweb 1meg uncapped account.
My downloads and uploads are fine but according to speedtest.net my ping is in the region of between 530ms and 690ms on all local servers and
between 680 and 790 on intl.

Now its never been an issue for me but am thinking of starting to play a few games online and if this is gonna affect my experience then its gonna be a problem.

my wife brought her laptop home yesterday and i was tinkering around with it and decided to do a speed test to my surprise 40-58ms on each attempt.

I called mweb support to see if they had any answers but besides telling me to flush dns and belete browsing history they recon its got to do with my machine!

any ideas of what it could be?
p.s not an old machine and reloaded the os last week.

Thanks

Test conducted on Thu Jun 16 2011 21:36:37 GMT+0200 (South Africa Standard Time)

Download Speed: 838 kbps (104.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 237 kbps (29.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 575 ms

The speedtest ping is *always* wrong. Use pingtest & results will be more in line with what you expect. ;)

Have you tested another account from a different isp? I see you tested your wife's pc but did you then immediately go test your pc? Obviously you tested your wife's laptop using the same account? Seems a bit stupid to ask but anyhoo :D.

Are you using a LAN cable or are you connected via WiFi?

Try running like the following in command prompt:
tracert www.mweb.co.za

And then copy & paste the results here.

My lines felt crap lately, how are these results on a 4mb line with mweb uncapped isp ??

3p1c: that seems like you were downloading/uploading.
300ms is quite bad for ADSL. The first hop to the Internet should usually be below 50ms when your ADSL is in perfect shape.

I would recommend that you try out a different ISP account and also perform the traceroute to see if the latencies are also so erratic or if they're constant.
If the latencies are also as erratic as your Mweb results, then there's most likely something wrong/overloaded at your Telkom exchange.

I would however recommend that you disable WiFi & unplug all the other PC's from your ADSL modem to make 100% sure that no one else is uploading/downloading. Of course you have to make sure that you're not uploading/downloading stuff yourself too.
This is where SNMP agents on ADSL modems comes in very handy, because then you can draw graphs of your ADSL bandwidth usage for all the PC's/devices accessing it.
