PC problem

I often find that people tend to forget the simplest things and try and dig to deep solving problems.

have you checked to make sure that your power switch or reset button is not stuck ? - they both have little springs and if you push to hard and they get stuck inside the case you also have the affect of the pc rebooting every few seconds.

remember that if the actual switch is stuck you button can still pop out to default location, push the button in and feel if it is not stuck.

you can also try formating the drive on another pc, i know someone who had this p[roblem and solved it after he reformated his drive, odd i know but it worked.

I agree. Normally, if I don't come right, I remove everything from the case and put it back together on the table and see if it is working then. It's maybe a short or the power button that is stuck...

Had a problem before where a customer didnt put spacers between his motherboard and case, had the same result as you hitman. Make sure thers no contact between the back of your MB and case. It does a kinda short circuit. No hardware damage was done to my customer so theres hope even if you have the same prob:)

found the problem.I took my pc to Dc3 Distribution - how useless they are , they tell me its my motherboard thats skrewd.I took the mobo to my friend , we test HIS c2d cpu on my mobo , it works - the system boots up.put my cpu in , 3sec on then off.Same problem. We tested 2 cpus and 2 motherboards putting each cpu in both motherboards visa versa. His cpu gets extremly hot and mine stays luke warn.So the cpu is skrewd.

sigh ;/

ideally, you need identical hardware, one working and one not working, then swop out bits.
I take it your friend has a different motherboard, and maybe a different cpu (although they are both skt775...) makes it difficult to come to a 100% conlcusion, and even more difficult to do it on a forum, given the nature of the medium. things like cpu microcode patches missing in the bios can easily cause one motherboard to not post with a particular cpu, hence why quite often a board may not work with a certain cpu model until a bios update is released.

anyway, good luck, and hope you get it sorted:)
