So my computer randomly freezes. It can do it three times in 5 minutes or once a week and when it does it makes this huge buzzing sound. Really irritating. What could be the problem?

I assume the buzzing sound is coming from the speakers. A frozen pc can be any number of things. I would start by removing and re-seating your RAM.

Its not the ram.

Its more likely the CPU fan has failed.
Open up the case, and check the following things:

Is the fan is running?
- No? Replace fan. Remember to completely clear off old heatsink compound, and replace with new compound when replacing fan.

Is it running, but so caked in dust that it can barely cool?
- Yes? Turn computer off, get a clean paintbrush and use that to clean the fan blades.
Suggest do it outside the house. Get a hairdryer and blow the rest out if possible.

Are the capacitors on the motherboard vrot?
- Capacitors are the small round things on the board. Check if any are bulging at the top. If so, you probably need to replace them.
Usually cheaper to replace the board at that point though.
Google image search for "bulging capacitor motherboard" will show you what to look for.

My money is on the fan though.

Ya check GPU fans as well, it shouldn't freeze if not gaming, but doesn't hurt to check.

Could also be the HDD, my PC froze back in 2009 a lot and its cause the HDD was dying.

Check system temps and can speeds in the BIOS. The BIOS will usually warn you of fan failure as others have said, if it goes below a certain rpm, or if temps get too high.

HDD's making enough noise to do that are usually too far gone; if the HDD is making a loud buzzing sound, it probably won't be able to boot, so I'm discounting the HDD.

Most computers have a beep set in the bios for overheating, so its much more likely to be that in my humble opinion, as I know everything ;)

Most likely culprit are cpu fan, or gpu fan.

A bunch of ideas - not sure what you have tried. Run the iso from memtest.org for see if it picks up any errors.
Also monitor your cpu/gpu temp - does it get hot? Anything in the event logs - you never know. Run a hdd checker and scan for bad sectors/failing drive.
Run windows in safe mode - does it still freeze?

My CPU normally runs around 45 degrees on ilde and minimum usage. So I don't think it's the problem at this stage. Removed my RAM and still nothing. But then ironically since posting this it hasn't frozen yet. Will try other solutions suggested here and give feedback.
