Pc restarting

Install motherboard monitor and check if your vault lines are correct. Like has been said remove 1 of the ram modules and swap and do the same with the other. Remove everything except the basics to boot. Try a spare GC. Try setting your bios to defaults. What make of drive is it? If it's maxtor it's probably dying a slow death. Each drive manufacturer usually has a util to check the disk for bad sectors. Download AVG free and keep it updated on your pc.
 
74 degrees is way too high Xenophon :( What processor do you have? Best thing is to give us your whole system specs, mobo, cpu, ram, speeds, everything. You need some decent cooling for that rig.
 
From my experience it could be a stuffed PSU. Often happens if you have a no-name brand, and after a while it starts stuffing out. The pc rebooting while the game starts loading is because the power requirements go up a lot as soon as you start trying to load games and other intensive apps.
 
you shouldn't be hitting more than 65C with the cpu on max usage..
check that the heatsink is on correctly, and the cpu fan is twirling at full speed, also do you have temps for other parts of the motherboard? if those are around 25-35C than your case temp is ok, just the heatsink is dodgy in some way
 
Ok, I took off the fan & heatsink to clean (just took all dust off). But it still runs at too high a level (74c-98c). I thought there is only one way to put on the heat sink. Secondly why was it running fine and then just all of a sudden it started this crap or is it just one of those things ?

I will check now what the rest of the system runs at and post it here.
 
well i can tell you, your problem is your cpu temp

is it fine in windows because nothing heavy is being done
once you load a game, things get heavy game shuts down

dude make sure it clipped down very tight and does not move
also make sure the fan is spinning rather fast, because a slow fan can be bad

if none of this works go and buy a new intel fan and seat that fan :)

if none of this works come back and tell us

might be a busted cpu, though ive never heard of a busted cpu getting high temps

I don't know but my P4 3GHz runs at about 36 degrees C normally. I figure you are frying that cpu.

Should be able to get something half decent for under R200, make sure you get a decent thermal grease as well. Arctic Silver 5 is normally a good bet.

Where are you? Maybe I can suggest a few stores.
 
I would also suggest you use Arctic Silver 5, they've got the thermal compound and a cleaning solution aswell, both will amount to about R160. The thermal compound itself will lower the temp @ about 5 degrees. Get a decent cooler and read how to guides to apply and clean the cpu and heatsink.

LOL, yeah, that would be the reason your machine is overheating. Not too sure of stores in Jozi unfortunately. Try Computer Mania or Incredible Connection. Just ask for a gigabyte cooler for your chip and a tube of thermal grease. They usually have instructions in the box.

Budget Technologies in North Gate is probably your best bet.
 
Buy a Playstation/XBoX/Nintendo etc. If the game hangs, the CD/DVD is either scratched or the console is faulty. No scratching for solutions. No additional expenses.

I'm sick of PC's being so fiddly with games. Most of the time the solutions are always to "upgrade this" or "buy this bigger thingy" or "download that patch".

How come we can't take a PC game out the box, stick it in our ROM drives and play? Sure console games cost around R200 more, but at least they work each time!
