Hi Guys, need some advice pleasde. I'm runnig Win 7 Ultimate off a SSD as the OS drive for boot up. The last month or so my startup and shutdown have slowed down dramatically. It used to boot up to desktop in a matter of a few seconds, same with shutdown. Now it gets stuck on the welcome/logging off screen for at least 45 seconds. It's a bloody pain.

I have scanned for virusses/Malware, SDD is not fragmented, tried disk cleanup. No joy.

Any ideas?

If I look in the Startup folder, it's empty.

SSD is a 128GB with about 35GB free space.

Windows checks more than just the startup folder for programs to start.
Control panel, administrative tools, system configuration, startup tab.
Check if one of the programs listed for startup is causing the delay.

Sounds as though you might have something going wrong that causes Windows to wait for a time-out before continuing.

There are a number of applications that log the start-up process. You should probably try one of these.

Google is your friend.

go to run/msconfig

Do a selective startup and remove any none important services and startup programs.
Don't defrag your ssd, it's not necessary in the slightest.

+1
However I would check first other cause. Go to the Device Manager and see if any device has yellow or red check marks.
