Pc turning off when gaming? It's killing me :(

I downloaded the latest drivers for CCC and everything else related to the GPU, the PC is clean, no viruses, really lost here
 
what temp do the ATI drivers show for the card? mine barely ups the fan speed on auto when I play Fallout at full res. it shouldnt heat up so much.

Does the card have airflow on both sides? i.e in the machine and at the exhaust? and are you using 2 sys fans to move the inside air so the card can "breathe" ?
 
if your pc has onboard graphics then remove your graphics card and see how your pc runs. if that doesnt work try removing all non-essential components one by one. what is the idel temp of your graphics card?
 
i wont put my co&* on the block like many here, and say its one thing or another as it could be all of them. Just because all the parts are new, doesn't means its not faulty. Memory, MB, GPU, CPU, PSU, even the OS could all cause it. A new faulty update on our OS could be the cause as much as anything else.

Only way to be 100% certain is to try and elimate each one until your certain what is causing it for you. In my case a few years ago, it was my GPU. It took me 3 months though to force rectron to replace the card, but when they finally did, I never had a single problem again, The same card is now still running in my Dads machine now.

hardest part though is trying to find replacement parts for everything until you can find out just which one is causing it.. Good luck none the less

Im only using one system fan, a rear one, but the air flow seems ok, ill get another fan (but if my PSU is the cause, that wouldnt help?)
How can i check the temps on ati?
 
the ati driver does i think doesnt it? the utility program on the taskbar?

the onboard graphics idea is a good one, try that. it will quickly eliminate your graphics card.
 
Oh yeah, Aofil, if you want to check your 4890's temp, i got a program called SmartDoctor with my Asus 4870 and i see you have the Asus 4890 so i guess you got the program too?

well if you did, install it and you can control the fan speed and it tells you your cards temp!

It has an onboard GPU, how on earth do i remove it though? The intel board comes with some onboard GPU (forgot the name) ill try see how to remove it

HEy man, nah i didnt get that program, ill google it now though maybe i can get it, ive been suspicious as the GPU fan doesnt run very fast, it seems "chilled" or in like relaxed mode if you know what i mean, cant change anything in BIOS either
 
u dont remove the onboard card!

lol. remove the ATI. reboot. The board will default to the onboard GPU. play around, do what u did before (granted graphics will be sucky) and see if it still fails like it has been.

Its Asus SmartDoctor, look in your box, should come with your card :)
If not then it might be available for download off Asus's website..
 
hmmm. are you giving that card separate power adaptors as it needs? you're not sharing the cable are u?

Im just thinking maybe when you're playing and that GPU fires up u running out of amps for it. or you dont have enough power for the cooling fan to do its job.

Anyone know what are the "official" symptoms of an underpowered card? it must be possible since I can boot by 4890 off a shared power plug in it but i assume things are gonna go dodge when it needs to start working hard.

I just checked, tho single power connector for the 4890 is connected firmly..

Sorry there are 2 power connector feeds going thru the same insert on the GPU.
 
well unplug, pull out the whole card, and run it off the onboard GPU for a while as suggested and see what happens.
 
Guys interesting observation, i opened the case and disconnected the 4890, reult, screen does not even turn on, just goes into standby when i turn the pc on, but i can hear the log on sounds etc.
Second, i put my 4890 back in and gave it seperate power connectors from the PSU juts to make sure its being fed, i ran Flight Simulator X with no problems for about 10 minutes. Im gonna try GTA 4 now
 
so before it shared power connectors? or you had 2 connectors but off one cable from the psu?
 
So you were sharing a power rail between the graphics cards and other components? That will surely cause your PSU to go T1TS up! Hope it is fixed now, but yeah - Always keep your graphics cards on their own power rails.
