This seemed cool and I started looking into some of these options. I've found a product called ChronusMax / ControllerMax which is quite a bit cheaper (about R700 - R900), but the company who used to stock them locally (xmods) doesn't seem to do it anymore. Does anyone know where I can get one in SA? I can get it from AliExpress for about US$54, but then I'm left to the mercy of SAPO.

Then there is the console controller. Give me wasd and mouse for FPS games any day. Controller just sucks.
That is exactly why I'm looking at the ChronusMax thingy - so I can play FPS titles on the PS3 with a keyboard and mouse.

Just taking the cost of 1 game a month for a year and PC becomes better value. So I have no idea what you're talking about.
PC might have a higher initially cost, but you make that money back in no time once you factor in the cost of games.
Plus the life span of the PC.
I usually buy my games second hand from BT Games or Cash Converters etc. But this is true - the cost of PS3 games is redonculous. Gran Tourismo 5 (I think) was close to R700 for months, I've seen it on special, new for something like R250 recently. Like with most things - early adopters get screwed big time.
Just ordered my Cronusmax off xmod's site. I'll update once I've received it. Must say - service from them seems excellent and friendly. Also stopped by the local Cash Converters - a couple of nice FPS titles for between R99 and R200 available = tempted.

It is information like this that makes life easier. Tx biometrics. I was always under the impression that KB & M was available for PS and Xbox, but since the games were not ported properly for use with KB & M is would be futile to try. My kid has been moaning to get a PS but I have "ignored" him 'cos I thought I won't be able to also enjoy it, as I'm an old school, die hard PC gamer.

Cost comparison is only one variant, it has to be measured against the buyer's budget and actual need.

Gaming PCs aren't that expensive anymore unless you're gaming higher than 1920x1080/60Hz/0xAA, even a lowly GeForce 750 will be able to max out most games.
True, but if various gaming communities report that a product offers true 1:1 control via kb and mouse (actual need) at half the price of competitors in the market, it would be senseless to opt for the more expensive offer just because you are able to afford it.

Looks really good. Pity that after scanning through the site for a couple of minutes. it is still not clear to a noob like me, how this device will actually work? Some simple pictures or diagrams would help.
Some info seems to infer that your pc needs to be connected to this device at all times while using it on your console? How, why, when...jirre?
From what I can gather the PS4 and Xbox one requires authentication with a genuine controller after which it can be removed and used wireless.
The kb and mouse option is programmed via the pc, you can then plug in a Bluetooth or wireless adapter and game wireless.
Ok, so I received my Cronusmax yesterday - very happy with the speed and feedback from xmods. I didn't have a lot of time to play around with it, but did hook it up for a quick run on Battlefield. Very impressed with the way the keyboard and mouse translate into the game play. I've only done a very basic key map and was able to far exceed my previous kill rate on this game. I'll fiddle around with it some more when I have the time and I'm sure I'll be able to tweak it a lot to get it even better.
Just some feedback on this question. For kb/mouse gaming the ChronusMax plugs into the console via standard USB, the pc/laptop plugs into the side of the Cronusmax via micro usb. The Maxaim software feeds the instructions from the keyboard and mouse to the console through the ChronusMax. So, yes you have to be plugged in, but I think it is worth the result.
I feel the same way, this argument has been done so many times.
PC are the most powerful in every way and you can do the most with a PC. But it's not the best value for money and depending on how tight your budget is your probably better off with PS4 or xbox one. Also almost every pc game these days require access to internet, so if you don't have access to high speed uncapped stable internet your also better off with a console.
If you want the best gaming platform around graphics/performances wise and you can afford it , pc is clearly the way to go with 4k res becoming more affordable as we speak.
For the once not interested in best performances/graphics and just wants to play the latest games without having a care about hardware etc. Go pick up a console it's your best buy.
I know a lot of you will be saying but what about game exclusives? A lot people argument is that consoles has the best exclusives which might be true. But really in the end it doesn't matter which one you go for , you going to miss out on some games that's just the way it is.
