Pc vs Ps2

After the Xbox 360 and Ps3 are launched its going to be incredible hard for the PC to evolve fast enough to cath up to them. The N-gen consolse are all running multi-celled processers on a single chip, xbox360 3 and ps3 6. We wont see this technology in PC's for years.

That's all brilliant and stuff but how long will it take to see developers USING the 3 & 6 cells.

Remember the PS2 capability was only fully realised last year so it will take quite a while for developers to use the multiple cores.

A PC runs at a hang of a better resolution than a TV (Im talking normal TV`s here :)). So PC`s get my vote.

Have you had look at the xbox?
I did some research a while back and concluded the xbox was better than the ps2 despite speed bumps.

But either way the consol for me is a very social game friend come over and get grab a control and game away. I have a PC also. They are very different.

What type of games are you want to play?

mmm.. I've seen the current Xbox running on a 42" plasma screen using 720p and 1080p resolutions, and it has crisp clear graphics which rival PC resolutions... i think not many people have really see what even the current Xbox is capable of and jump to conclusions too soon...

Try play FPS on console, a nightmare! PC is way better.
Racing games are better on console though definately

Which is better between pc and ps2 games? It seems to cost the same for ps2 than a decent graphics card. I like mainly car race games, what is your advice?

Ares
I believe this is a choice everybody has faced at some time or another, I currently own a PS2 & a PC, and to be honest they both have there place in my digital entertainment word, so here are the pro's & con's for each from my experience.

-= PC - Pro's =-
* More that just a games system ( Can be used a movie, dvd, music player, alarm clock :D )
* A wide array of input devices & configurations.
* Some geners of games work's best on a PC, these include any FPS (First person shooter), RPG (Role playing game), RTS (Real time strategy) , PACA (Point And Click Adventure titles)
* Very good graphics (This will vary depending on what hardware you choose)
* Mulitplayer & internet ( PS2 & XboX has these features also, but there are no service in SA to support them )
* Games are cheaper, and if so inclined free (cracked versions). I personally play a cracked version of a game, If i am still playing that game after 2 day's I will buy a legal version. (I see this a a full demo model ;) )
* Game's adapt new tech very quickly.
* ablilty to patch games, in order to fix broken part's of the games, eg broken plot's on a RPG / bug fixes.
* Game Mod's (Counter strike is the best exsample of this )

-= PC -Con's =-
* A very exspensive cost in the begining, R6 000 + for a gamer PC.
* Upgrading to support newer games / tech being used in games.
* The rare compatibilty issue with your hardware (usally soleved via a patch)
* Game's generally does not has such intensive QA, since any missed bug's can be fixed via a downloadable patch. (There a a few games which this has realy hurt the games developer & the player. )
* Games need to be installed to play, no real plug & play.
* Except for lan's, PC gaming is a very isolated & unsosial event.
* viruses, spyware, etc :mad:
* Constant physical & OS maintenance

-= Console Pro's =-
* Easy install & setup. (real plug & play)
* Cheaper than PC to buy hardware.
* well defined interface.
* a lot of controlers (PS2 game controler design is the best so far )
* Some game geners work best on consoles ( Racing games, fligth sims, non-point and click adventure titles, action titles, figthing titles  good old Tekken.)
* No hardware upgarde required.
* Games are of higher quality when released (this is due to a stricter QA proccess because once the game is shiped, the developer cannot patch it at a later stage)
* Games are guaranteed to run smoothly no the platform as it is developed for a single set of hardware.
* Games are developed quicker because game developers are already familiar with the capabilities of the hardware & also the limitations.
* Playing a console game can be a social event, e.g. 2 of my friends & myself finished GTA:SA on PS2 by all getting together, and we made turns doing the missions (even my GF joined in on occasion.)

-= Console Con's =-
* Games are more expensive.
* additional controllers can be expensive (The PS2 connection tech is proprietary, thus companies like logitech pay a royalty fee for using them, the PS3 Will use standard tech like USB which should solve this problem)
* The odd game with a bug that just can't be fixed.
* No internet or Multiplayer ( As mentioned above, this is a service limitation not a hardware limitation )
* It is more difficult to pirate a game ( There are 2 side's to this coin, I do not support piracy, but if somthing cannot be pirated then companies can charge more for the original. almost like a monopoly, good day telkom how are you today ? )
* Console needs to be "modded" to play non original titles (Thus voiding any warranty)
* Current console hardware is inverior to PC hardware (this in kinda redundant, as consols are played using a TV, which currently does not go higher that 800x600 so there is no need to have stronger hardware. Most PC games will run fine on mainstream hardware if you run it on 800x600. Remember that the new gen of consoles will be stronger that current PC hardware, but we are looking at release date of +2 years, think back on how much PC hardware has "evolved" in the last 2 years. GForce 4 vs GForce 7800?. And remember that next gen consoles are being developed for HDTV not normal TV.)

In summary I will say the following.
If you are a casual gamer, a console is the best solution to by. But if you are an enthusiastic gamer the PC will be you best friend, and your most expensive hobby ( but hey, there are people spending more on cycling a year that I do on my PC + games, so why should I be called crazy just because I do both)

You know what the scary thing is? most Plasma screens dont run that high a res  Some will be able to handle 720P (1280x720) but I don't know of a PLasma screen that can do 1080i or 1080P (1920x1080). They can display it but they downscale the resolution. Most plasma's run 1024x768 and then some run 1365 x 768 (This can do REAL 720i/P). The entry level Marantz PLasma goes for R30000 and it only displays 853x480. You plasma becomes the problem, sure it can display it but it is not showing how the full resolution.

LCD TV's might solve this or some of the DLP Rear Projection TV's like the Toshiba's. Direct view TV's like the Loewe or Phillips Pixel Plus TV's can also display 1080i. Very few TV's support 1080P, the only ones I know of are the high end DLP Toshiba's.

Yeah... i depends on what games you like.
If u like racing go for PS2. But if u like FPS NEVER BUY A PS2 GAME! For FPS always buy PC games. Some games obviously can only be played on PC, like MMORPG's (is that true, or do u get console MMORPG's?). PC's have the best graphics, resolutions ect.. 3rd person games are also good on PS2 (GTA San Andreas) ... But some games are the best in thier genre but will never come out on console, or will never come out on PC. Example: Half Life 2 IMOA if the best game ever created. But it will never come out on PS2 (?) or if it does the controls will be tedious cos' of the analog stick.

PS2 is cheaper.... but PC is worth it if ur patient (installation times). If u want graphics and the ability to mod go PC. If u want quick and cheap(er) gaming go PS2 (note games cost doble the price of PC games) .

PS3 has built in support for 1080P by default so it's going to look pretty. That and the Nvidia RSX bundled with 512 ram... it's going to be sweet.

God i hate it when people say that The next gen consoles will be better than pcs, technology developes so fast in that by the time they come out the console grapics will be outdated compared to computers.

PC's rock ass. You cant have a huge lan with a ps every one would have to bring a tv.

Sorry i cant see how anyone can play on a console (well this is mainly because im an fps, rts and mmorpg/rpg player)
Long live the Mouse

The only reason I have a PS2 is for Gran Turismo, Silent hill (Sux on PC) and Tekken, BTW Tekken 5 ROCKS!

Have you seen the PS3 in action? Kill Zone 2 anyone? Sure the PC's will advance while the PS/XBOX stagnate for a while but Consoles will rule for a while. Real time fluid dynamics and Graphics that are unmatched by anything on the PC. Anyone seen the PS3 introduction at E3? 1.3GB video but well worth it. Kill Zone 2 has Final Fantasy quality graphics in REAL TIME.

I don't like choosing between the 2, I have both but the next gen consoles are going to be awesome!

Im saving up for it, but i hope its multi-region likemy psp, otherwise its a waste of my money.

Ah man, now i cant use my xlink-kai.
Slim do you use xlink-kai?

games are noramly fatser on ps because i read somewhere that its hardware rendering not like all the software that runs on pcs , pcs are much more powerful than ps or xbox i think.ran a ps1 emulator and it laged.cool thing about ps is you can have a hdd in it and copy the games on to it.if they made boot up disk for pcs with ps software pcs would kick ass i guess

I guess @ the end of the day it's "different strokes for different folks".

Me, i prefer not to have to upgrade my rig everytime a good game is out.
Single platform for 5-6 years .

EMMMMMMMM
WRONG!
EMulation is when you run software that not designed for that machine.
All GFxcards Use Hardware renders.
The reason why ps2 games run faster is because they have fixed settings.
WIth teh pc you can f-around with the res and the textures for optimum performance!

Sorry if i offended anyone, just a bit emotional.

I just think that pc is the better platform for games
Albiet, if you are a casual gamer i think that a console is better

Owning a high end pc is a big hit on your wallet, but it alows the flexibility for a more serious gamer. Things like being able to mod your own games adds so much life to the games you own, but requires you to have advansed technical knowlage

highly agree with vrapt0r, Pc are often shadowed by consoles since its requires a above average mind to use one.
Its just preferance, games are games! we rather have some games than no at all!
