Which is better between pc and ps2 games? It seems to cost the same for ps2 than a decent graphics card. I like mainly car race games,what is your advice?
Ares
I believe this is a choice everybody has faced at some time or another, I currently own a PS2 & a PC, and to be honest they both have there place in my digital entertainment word, so here are the pro's & con's for each from my experience.
-= PC - Pro's =-
* More that just a games system ( Can be used a movie, dvd, music player, alarm clock

)
* A wide array of input devices & configurations.
* Some geners of games work's best on a PC, these include any FPS (First person shooter), RPG (Role playing game), RTS (Real time strategy) , PACA (Point And Click Adventure titles)
* Very good graphics (This will vary depending on what hardware you choose)
* Mulitplayer & internet ( PS2 & XboX has these features also, but there are no service in SA to support them )
* Games are cheaper, and if so inclined free (cracked versions). I personally play a cracked version of a game, If i am still playing that game after 2 day's I will buy a legal version. (I see this a a full demo model

)
* Game's adapt new tech very quickly.
* ablilty to patch games, in order to fix broken part's of the games, eg broken plot's on a RPG / bug fixes.
* Game Mod's (Counter strike is the best exsample of this )
-= PC -Con's =-
* A very exspensive cost in the begining, R6 000 + for a gamer PC.
* Upgrading to support newer games / tech being used in games.
* The rare compatibilty issue with your hardware (usally soleved via a patch)
* Game's generally does not has such intensive QA, since any missed bug's can be fixed via a downloadable patch. (There a a few games which this has realy hurt the games developer & the player. )
* Games need to be installed to play, no real plug & play.
* Except for lan's, PC gaming is a very isolated & unsosial event.
* viruses, spyware, etc
* Constant physical & OS maintenance
-= Console Pro's =-
* Easy install & setup. (real plug & play)
* Cheaper than PC to buy hardware.
* well defined interface.
* a lot of controlers (PS2 game controler design is the best so far )
* Some game geners work best on consoles ( Racing games, fligth sims, non-point and click adventure titles, action titles, figthing titles

good old Tekken.)
* No hardware upgarde required.
* Games are of higher quality when released (this is due to a stricter QA proccess because once the game is shiped, the developer cannot patch it at a later stage)
* Games are guaranteed to run smoothly no the platform as it is developed for a single set of hardware.
* Games are developed quicker because game developers are already familiar with the capabilities of the hardware & also the limitations.
* Playing a console game can be a social event, e.g. 2 of my friends & myself finished GTA:SA on PS2 by all getting together, and we made turns doing the missions (even my GF joined in on occasion.)
-= Console Con's =-
* Games are more expensive.
* additional controllers can be expensive (The PS2 connection tech is proprietary, thus companies like logitech pay a royalty fee for using them, the PS3 Will use standard tech like USB which should solve this problem)
* The odd game with a bug that just can't be fixed.
* No internet or Multiplayer ( As mentioned above, this is a service limitation not a hardware limitation )
* It is more difficult to pirate a game ( There are 2 side's to this coin, I do not support piracy, but if somthing cannot be pirated then companies can charge more for the original. almost like a monopoly, good day telkom how are you today ? )
* Console needs to be "modded" to play non original titles (Thus voiding any warranty)
* Current console hardware is inverior to PC hardware (this in kinda redundant, as consols are played using a TV, which currently does not go higher that 800x600 so there is no need to have stronger hardware. Most PC games will run fine on mainstream hardware if you run it on 800x600. Remember that the new gen of consoles will be stronger that current PC hardware, but we are looking at release date of +2 years, think back on how much PC hardware has "evolved" in the last 2 years. GForce 4 vs GForce 7800?. And remember that next gen consoles are being developed for HDTV not normal TV.)
In summary I will say the following.
If you are a casual gamer, a console is the best solution to by. But if you are an enthusiastic gamer the PC will be you best friend, and your most expensive hobby ( but hey, there are people spending more on cycling a year that I do on my PC + games, so why should I be called crazy just because I do both)
