My new GPU has Pci express 2.0 compatability, but dont see any of the mobos that support it.

Is Pci express 2.0 the same as Pci Express X16?

Thanx in advance guys

I know the intel motherboards with the x38, x48 and p45 chipset have pci express 2.0 capability, pci express 2 is just the revision of the slot, it provides better performance then that of the pcie 1.0 slot. The x16 is the max speed the gpu has when put in a specific slot specified the slot is x16 in speed. i would suggest you upgrade your board to one that has pcie 2.0 so that you can get the true performance out of the card.

its quite hard to find a PCI express 2.0 Motherboard. Most of the common ones have only pci express 1.0

Also cant really spend over R1000

Pci-e2 is pointless as far as i know, cards don't even push pci-e1 as far as i know. Doubt you will see an increase if you get a pci-2 mobo

Google PCI-E 1.0 vs PCI-E 2.0 and you'll find that people who performed comparisions found little to no difference. This feature is more for peace of mind than for an actual increase in performance.

I would still get a pci2 board because i have read that you get a 20 percent performance increase with pci2 and whats the point in gettin a good card if you are going to be restricting it

Excelent point, 20 percent is something, Im sure we all wanna get the most outta our GPUs.

Actually buying a new pc at the moment it comes with some Intel Gigabyte G31 Mobo, its pretty budget so wanna upgrade it to something that has pci Express 2

Were did you read this?? Proof please.

As far as I know most cards don't even take full advantage of pci express 1.1. There's no major performance difference between running on pci express 16x and pci express 2.0.

Certainly not enough to upgrade the mobo for pci e 2.0.

I would assume only the GTX 280 would take advantage of PCI-E 2.0. On the other hand, a 9600GT is a completely different story.

Please give me your source, i cannot believe that statement for one second.

20% increase? i highly doubt that.

Problem is that cpu's are holding these cards back not pci-e1 or 2

I covered this in the Hardware and Software FAQ.

As for the 20% performance increase, uhm no don't expect any miracles ;)
