Hi All

Just checking in to see if anyone has seen one of these before:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816321028

My Asus xonar dg sound card is far too close to my GFX card and I think this is the reason why sometime it keeps losing connectivity(must get pretty toasty in there :D)

Can you even get these locally?

I see you can get PCIe 1x extenders as well. If that is the case I would like to get one of those and maybe get the Asus Xonar Xense bundle :D

Any thoughts or advise.

Thanks

Those wantitall prices are crazy. I am busy looking through ebay but not many people ship to SA and if they do they dont have the PCI version which is what I'm looking for, not PCIe

If you can go sideways :erm:, this is pretty damn cheap:

Yes, I do have a vertical exp slot that this might be very cool to use it on.

Those takealot prices don't seem to bad, unless I can find a local shop, I might order from them.

Do you guys think it will affect the sound quality on the asus xonar dg sound card?

If you want to save a bit of money take a look on Dealextreme - they sell several different types of risers. Their prices include free shipping to SA.

I have much the same issue with my Gfx and a Xonar Xense, figured it was a heat issue and decided to see if anyone had a solution on here, which is clearly the riser. With the sound card removed, the gfx is stable.

I just have a question about this though, where/how would I mount the sound card when using a riser?

Hi Bismuth

I bought 2 extenders(waiting on the very long delivery from DX). Here is a link to the pcie one.

http://www.dealextreme.com/p/36-pin-ribbon-cable-for-desktop-pc-91760

It looks like it will just plug in the the pcie slot and then you will use the cable to connect to the sound card. You can then seat the card in a lower pci slot. The cable looks similar to an IDE cable so should be flexible as well.

The only thing I am not sure about is if there will be any sound degradation from using an extender like this

We will have to wait and see unless somebody else has used something like this before?

Ah, thanks Reaper, think I am going to get me one of those as well! :D

Not sure if there will be any sound degradations, shouldn't be, as the extender is only 20cm or so long, think it would be an issue if you were talking meters. Anyway, will see when they arrive, as you say.

Well finally got my extensions today.

Delivery was a little over a month from order date. Thanks DX :(

I tried to install the PCI version as I ordered botha pci and pci-x x1 version just in case and the thing doesn't fit well in the case.

It is just a little short for the vertical slot and too long for the below slots. Lovely

Anyway if anyone is interested in some extension cables (PCI and 1x PCI-X) let me know.

Here is my poor gfx card getting cosy with my sound card. hehe

Moral of the story. Do not buy a mATX motherboard, Even when you think it'll be fine, it won't.

Can't you just increase the length of the extension cable? It might be possible to just remove the connectors from both ends and refit on a longer piece of ribbon cable. I can't see how the connectors are joined to the original cable. In the worst case you could just cut them in half and solder a piece of ribbon cable inbetween. It may even be possible to use IDC connectors to do the join which can just be pressed onto the cable.
