Can someone help with a link to a freeware/open source pdf editor for XP that is usable? I have tried a couple of demo versions but they either watermark the document or substitute xxxxxxxxxxx for random words....

Have you tried OpenOffice.org's Writer? It can save docs in PDF format.

Thanks Flarkit, I want to edit documents that are in PDF format already.

Read the abovementioned previous thread, where it has stopped at someone asking how to combine 20 PDF-files for free.

http://www.pdf995.com/ will do that trick as well as quite a few other PDF-tricks, short of editing text. However even adobe acrobat 6 (I have no newer version) does that quite poorly..

PDF995 is advertisingware when I last used it - but it's ok, and works fine. I've since migrated to CutePDF (www.cutepdf.com) which also does some tricks in it's free version, and now I'm using PDFcreator. I'm not using acrobat for printing - too complicated to 'calibrate'..

Have you tried using a pdf to word converter. Convert it into word format and edit it from there, software I've tried is able2doc (www.investintech.com)
and pdf2word (www.soft32.com) free trails. Then covert it back to pdf. I have recommended this to someone at work and he says it works fine, aslong as it is not scanned pdf files which will need other software with OCR
