Same issue in East London - Telkom ADSL line with Vox fat pipe ISP. Vincent Exchange. It's been like a yoyo all day.
I have 2 colleagues in PE - one having the same issue, the other not. The one who is not having the issue is using my Vox account so it's clearly not a Vox issue.

I'm on VDSL, the colleague who is having hassles is on Fibre.

Not sure if related but:

Dear Customer,

All telecom operators are experiencing different levels of outages (Voice, Data or both). This includes Vodacom, MTN, CellC and Telkom.

Openserve experienced three (3) cable breaks in a matter of 1 hour. 2 fibre circuits between East London & Port Elizabeth via the coast route, and the backup route between Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage. Due to the extent of the breaks, Openserve’s Network Operations Centre in Centurion have no telemetry access to these breaks. Tech teams with additional equipment are on their way from Johannesburg to East London and Port Elizabeth.

The following services will be affected:
1. Eastern Cape, North of Port Elizabeth - No or partial connectivity to Metro Ethernet Fibre services;
2. National: Voice currently has only 25% available trunks. Outbound voice is being prioritized.
3. Eastern Cape, North of Port Elizabeth - ADSL/VDSL partially affected.

We will update customers of the restore time as soon as we receive additional information from Openserve.

Not sure if related but:

That should not impact Port Elizabeth itself.

All data traffic flows from PE to Cape Town, with PE-East London being one of the redundant routes and PE-Uitenhage being the other redundant route.

People in Uitenhage should also be OK as they still have at least two routes out - via Graaff-Reinet and Cradock (ignoring the link back via Rocky Ridge to Humansdorp as it could be impacted).

Same with East London... they have routes out via King Williamstown and Mthatha.

This might mean slightly higher latency for EL and UIT but not "no service". And it should not affect PE clients at all.

The folks in Port Alfred were down for most of the day too, no cell comms, the internet was out...but the hotel WiFi here in Queenstown is still up (not that that helps the OP's case in any way, just thought I'd brag :D)

No problems here (well at least from 4pm when I got home). Except the power dipped at lunch time, think a power station blew up :p

Use the Cape Town server and look at your shared result. ;)
