Peering link problems hit again

Oh, the irony! We use IS and lost a client with the recent IS/SAIX problem as they did not understand the problem - they were actually very rude and antagonistic and impatient in the end. They switched to another company which uses UUNET and now they are sitting with exactly the same problem! I know that it isn't nice to have a situation where you have clients dropping you because of something out of your control, but I have to smirk about this.

IS also had a problem connecting to any Saix servers..... :( It's back up now....

Clipse - you are wrong - Our account manager gave us a call to tell us it's sorted - when we then told him he is talking k@k.

It seems better this morning.

Sorry, Im not wrong... Everything I post reflects saix with uunet locally, internationally with saix I cant care about.

Whoever your account manager is, he doesnt know his ass from his head it seems, I got contacted more than once by uunet md when these problems arise and trust me, what I typed in this thread has been spot on so far.

Believe who you like tho, doesnt change anything :)

as I said - they belived it was sorted.- you are thus wrong. I got this at 14:51 yesterday:

I have spoken to all the people at UUNET involved with this issue. We
have managed to get Telkom to replace the card on their ATM switch here
in Gallo Manor and it appears to have solved the problem. There may be a
bit of packet loss for the next short while but it will normalise
shortly. Throughout the day we had tried everything possible on our
Network. Although this was a Telkom issue, on behalf of UUNET SA I would
like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused
you.

yes, drones in UUNET would know more than the MD now wouldn't they.

mc721221 and Clipse, you're both wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong right wrong wrong right wrong wrong wrong.

Two wong's don't make a chin unless those two wong's were male/female combination.

Seems pointless reading this? Good, because that is how I found your posts to be (mc721221)

That is my point, the time you got that message I knew it was still broken sigh, just read my posts before you blabber on.

You said, "You were told its fixed, but its not" So I responded, no UUNET know there is problem with packetloss and its not fixed and they are working on it.

What dont you understand about that? I got the right info, you got the wrong info at the time, nothing more to it.

Saw this on the Hetzner site:

Hetzner’s Newsroom

14-09-05
Joint Statement from UUNET & Telkom
OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM UUNET & TELKOM: "In the past week, UUNET and Telkom became aware of intermittent network degradation on the peering infrastructure between the SAIX and UUNET networks. On 12 September UUNET took the initiative to install new routing infrastructure on that network path so as to eliminate any UUNET cause related issues, Telkom then did the same with their ATM infrastructure on the node.

Although the service stabilised on Monday evening and traffic was traversing our network at usual levels with more than adequate bandwidth available, the parties still noticed irregular traffic patterns and sporadic packet loss. On Monday night Telkom decided to reroute their peering infrastructure with UUNET onto a different port on the SAIX network. Since this change, the network has completely stabilised. Both parties will however continue to monitor the network and traffic flow between the ISP's.

Contrary to speculative media reports, there are no peering, capacity or contractual issues between UUNET and SAIX."
