Pentax just announced the 645D their medium format DSLR.

Major features:

  • 40MP CCD sensor
  • Dual SD/SDHC memory card slots
  • DR II sensor cleaning system
  • 11-point wide-frame AF
  • 77-segment multi-pattern metering
  • Large viewfinder with 98% coverage
  • 3.0-inch LCD monitor with approximately 921,000 dots
  • Dynamic-Range Expansion function to compensate for both whitewashed (excessively overexposed) and blacked-out (excessively underexposed) areas
  • Digital Level function for easy checking of the image’s levels
  • Automatic compensation of distortion and lateral chromatic aberration
  • Mirror shock/operation-noise reduction function to assure smooth, quiet operation of the mirror during shooting
  • ISO 200-1000 expandable to 100 and 1600

Dunno, but at about half the price as the competition, I think it might just find a market even if it is not quite as good. But if their DSLRs are anything to go by, I would expet the 645D to be right up there with the competition.
