The fan on our old faithful seems to be on its way out.

It's a 10 year old P3 which my mom uses for word processing etc. The CPU sits on a card which slots into the mobo like a PCI card...

The little fan on the heatsink of the CPU has got very loud lately. I have taken it off and cleaned all the dust out of it and that hasn't helped. The fan is very small - perhaps 50mm no more.

Where can I get a replacement for this? Just the fan...the rest of old faithful is still fine...
Prophecy have something which looks cool for like 70 bucks. But it's 92mm - that's gonna be too big.

Is there anywhere that still stocks such small CPU fans?

Seems you're describing a Slot 1 connection. I have some spares lying around.

I think I might be...

You saying that there is nowhere I could get these new anymore? It's just that even if you would be so kind as to send me one, once I've paid shipping, it might cos the same as a new one...Or what you think?

I had a slot1 aftermarket heatsink which was fanless if I remember correctly, was a massive heatsink maybe you can get something like that.

Well that would be quieter :p

You know where I could get one nowadays? Or will any old huge heatsink do?

Any heatsink with the correct characteristics would do.

Of course you could have it for free. But a new one would be great.

Those old things have an aluminium heatsink so if you can't get a replacement you could just buy a small enough fan and screw it on in such a way that the screws get wedged inbetween the fins of the heatsink.

That is how the current fan is "mounted". I am assuming it was like that when I got the thing, cos I haven't done anything to it since :o
