Bheki Cele, KZN MEC for Safety and Security. He now claims that it wasn't an ordinary robbery because the perps took his laptop as well. Firstly, why was the laptop not with him if it contained sensitive information? Secondly, what information exactly was on the laptop? Thirdly, laptops are valuable and small, so of course it'd be stolen along with TV, jewellery etc.

Indeed. He backed up pretty quickly as soon as it was time for reckoning. No stats for operation Iron Fist have been released. The MEC expects us to just accept his claims that there was a reduction in "some areas of criminal activity".

If the information was sensitive then why wasn't it encrypted anyway? If he'd lost a private company's sensitive info he'd be in deep **** now but obviously nothing will happen in this case, despite the fact there may be taxpayers info on there.

I didn't see that article in question but I suppose it could also just be a way to make it look like a specific, planned crime rather than general robbery, which probably makes it come across better politically. I doubt anyone even looked at the info.
