I just defrag'd with PerfectDisk 2008 and it is officially the biggest piece of cr@p know to man.

Everything is mad slow now. I'd say some things take at least twice as long as before. e.g. Listing the contents of the Windows folder.

Fark. :mad::mad::mad:

Interesting! I've got it running on two computers in the workshop and it is working really well. I've seen a significant increase in performance on both computers.

diskeeper is overrated. i really did not see any difference to my pc. if you want real defragmenting tools, try Paragon Total Defrag and O&O Defrag Professional.

Probably still running in the background. Check your processes.
Nope. Already uninstalled. Well, I tried to uninstall it, but that was almost as much of a disaster as the rest of the program. It seems to have uninstalled parts of the program and then the uninstall app just went AWOL.

The more I'm looking at this,The more I'm think I'll have to defrag the drives with something else *and* reload the OS partition.

I defragged the other PC in the house and that went OK-ish. Maybe it conflicted with Avast on this PC...dunno.

I just know I'm not touching PD again after this epic performance screwup. In the post defrag summary PD reckons it decreased performance by 30%. Nice.

Thats going to be the next thing I try. If it does not sort this out, then I have a problem because I don't have anywhere the put the 1/2 terrabyte while I format the drives.

Try JKDefrag, you get the GUI vversion as well, I tried all defragers but this is the best for me, no unnecessary services running in the background.

your firewall could be clashing with the service.
I doubt it. It hasn't tried to access the internet as far as I can see.

Thanks, but I've had enough new experiences defrag wise for one day.

Now the PC is starting to chow text too. I just typed a sentence fairly fast. After a 15sec delay only half appeared.:(

Anyway...enough whining for one day. :o

not the internet, the local service. the firewall needs to give that access as well. it works with either 10.0.0.2 and/or 127.0.0.1
i'd recommend installing a proper firewall such as ZoneAlarm.

The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period.
:eek::(

It would certainly explain a lot. Time to find a place to put a 300gb backup.:o

I've set Comodo to let loopback access through automatically.:) (127.0.0.1 btw)

yeah i meant .1

certain firewall apps cause conflicts. i know this for a fact when i had NOD32 installed which came with a firewall and i basically had no internet when that was running. i removed it and installed ZoneAlarm and all was fine. only reason i used NOD32 were for pure testing purposes.

A restart just took about 5 mins. It also gave me message that the OC failed. wtf The PC is not OC'd.

Vista is still NTFS.

Look like I'm gonna get a chance to see Spinrite in action and/or return the motherboard.

Hope you have sufficient cooling on hot days like today a PC is prone to fail without adequate cooling.

CPU & mobo temp average around 40. Dunno about the disks, but they should be fine too.

I'm busy copying the data off the drive and its copying at 1.3MB/s.:eek: At that rate it will take me 3 days to get the data off the drive.:(
