Update time.
The disk was not dying. Perfect Disk really is a piece of %&**). Ended up having to format to fix the damage PerfectDisk did to the filesystem.
Also found that the JMicron driver that came with the Asus P5K causes endless trouble. (Lagging mouse, skipping sound etc).
The message about the failed OC happens when the POST is not finished completely due to power cuts etc.
The only good that came out of the 20 wasted hours is that I managed to squeeze in a partition for kubuntu for dualboot.
