Hey hey, its Friday and I had a thought for a fun thread.

Busy re-watching The Expanse and it contains one of my favorite characters as well as an actor who does them great justice. Two of my favourites are:

Show-Movie: The Expanse
Character: Chrisjen Avasarala
Actor: Shohreh Aghdashloo
Quote : ""Realizing you've got **** on your fingers is the first step toward washing your hands."

Show-Movie: Kings (2007) and American Gods
Character: King Silas Benjamin \ Mr Wednesday
Actor: Ian Macshane
Quote: "Now who brings a gun to a tank fight?" ( KINGS ) ; "There are bigger sacrifices one might be asked to make than going a little mad. " ( American Gods )

Also big fan of Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy.

Slightly unrelated - how are you getting The Expanse? Amazon tells me it's not available in my location... VPN? Or Torrent?

Shohreh as Chrisjen was amazing casting, also really liked Jared Harris as Anderson Dawes.

No one has topped this level of acting.

Vin Diesel - Riddick
Stallone - Rambo
Sigourney Weaver as Ripley
Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger)

Did you know a women WASN'T supposed to play Ripley? It was originally thought of as a male role.

We were studying it to look at the character of Ripley- played by Sigourney Weaver, with the knowledge that in the original script, Ripley was written not as a badass, alien-butt kicking, feminist: but as a man.

In fact, the gender-switch came around pretty much at the last minute purely because they hadn’t found the right guy for the job and the director wondered if maybe it was because Ripley shouldn’t have been a guy in the first place. The original script did have a clause stating that all the characters were unisex and could be played by either gender… but the screenwriters admitted they never imagined their heroic lead as anything but a man.

They still weren’t convinced- until Ridley Scott opened up the casting to women and Sigourney Weaver walked in: 6’2, strong, imposing and yet gorgeous and feminine at the same time. She got the part, but they still didn’t change the script, making Ripley unique in that she was a character played as- and by- a very feminine woman, but written as a man. Suddenly a new female action hero was born with all the strength, guts and glory usually attributed to blokes. Consistently named one of the greatest characters of all time, Ripley was among the first women on film who is herself a complete person and isn’t defined by her relationship to the men around her

It's difficult to say because some actors are just great and chameleonic and seem perfect in everything they're cast for. I'd say perfect casting is where an actor seems irreplaceable in the role, just based on who they are. Some roles that come to mind:

* Lina Leandersson (Eli) - Let the Right One In
* John Travolta - Pulp Fiction
* Charlize Theron - Monster
* Robert Downey, Jr - Tony Stark
* Gloria Swanson - Sunset Boulevard
* Jack Nicholson - The Shining
* Min-sik Choi - Oldboy
* Robin Williams - Aladdin
* Gerard Depardieu - Jean de Florette
* Bryan Cranston - Breaking Bad
* Gael Garcia Bernal - Motorcycle Diaries
* Philip Seymour Hoffman - Capote
* Arnold Schwarzenegger - Terminator 1&2
* Christopher Waltz - Inglourious Basterds
* Marlon Brando - A Streetcar Named Desire
* Both Ricky Gervais and Steve Carrell - The Office UK and US
* Idris Elba - Luther
* Frances McDormand - Fargo

The Terminator/2 - Arnold Schwarzenegger
Neo - Keanu Reeves
Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr.
The Outlaw Josey Wales/Unforgiven/any Western he starred in - Clint Eastwood
John McClane - Bruce Willis

X-Men
Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier. In the comics Xavier is American and in the 90s cartoon he has an American accent but after Stewart took the role every subsequent appearance outside the comics has him portrayed as a Brit.

Show-Movie: Pirates of the Caribbean
Character: Davey Jones
Actor: Bill Nighy
Quote : "Let no joyful voice be heard! Let no man look up to the sky with hope! And let this day be cursed by we who ready to wake…the Kraken!"

Show-Movie: Avengers/MCU
Character: Thanos
Actor: Josh Brolin
Quote : ''I'm sorry little one''

Show-Movie: The Lion King
Character: Scar
Actor: Jeremy Irons
Quote : “Long live the king.”

Show-Movie: Terminator
Character: The Terminator
Actor: Arnold Schwarzenegger
Quote : ''I'll be back''

Show-Movie: Harry Potter
Character: Severus Snape
Actor: Alan Rickman
Quote : “Turn to page 394” and ''Always''

Can't imagine a more perfect fit for the role.

:)

Robert said something to the effect of: "If you give me this role I will make sure you will not regret it." He lived up to his word! Tom Cruise was apparently their first choice but there was creative differences.

Firefly - The entire Goran cast, but especially Nathan Fillion
The professional - Garry Oldman - Stansfield and Jean
Capn Jack Sparrow - Johnny Depp
Heath Ledger - The Joker
Harrison Ford - Indiana Jones and Han Solo
Alan Rickman - Marvin the robot in Hitchhikers guide

Show-Movie: Justified
Character: Raylan Givens
Actor: Timothy Olyphant
Quote : ''Honestly, I'd rather stick my dick in a blender''

I'm so glad they didn't pick Tom Cruise for that role. He is fine for stuff like mission impossible, but I just couldn't picture him as Tony Stark.
