Hey guys,

So its that time of my life when I want to fork out a good R10k on a performance gaming system that can plow through the most graphically intense games (Crysis for eg) with the ease of a bus driving over a little old lady with a cane.

Below is my choice of system, however I'm not sure what goes with what? As in, is a 600W power supply good enuff to power what i want? Will the RAM work well on that motherboard and so on.

System Infrastructure
---------------------------------------------
Motherboard: ASUS P5K Delux Wifi
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E6850 - 3.0ghz
RAM: Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX - XMS2 - 2 x 1GB
Power: Zalman ZM600-HP : 600w ( 12v : 504w )
Graphics: XFX Geforce 8800GT, Pci-E 2.0 16x , 512mb 256bit DDR3
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB
CD/DVD: Sony DRU-840a 20x
Monitor: LG L1960TR-BF (<-- luffly! :D)

With this pc, will the little old lady beat me with the cane, or will my bus succeed in sticking the old bat to the tar?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

ciao,
Sabbz

Have just upgraded myself,
But i went with:
MB: Asus P5NE-Sli
CPU: Intel core2 E8400 (6MB L2)
Graphics: Asus 8800GT 512
Ram: 2gig.
Played MOH Airborne last night until 3am, all i can say is OMG
Guess who is going shopping for games this weekend :D

If you can, try for the 8400, as its 6mb as opposed to the 4mb E6850

I agree with Killadoob

swop the CPU for a E8400. Also swap the XMS memory for bog standard ones. At this price level, so called performance ram does not warrant the expenditure.

THe money saved should buy you a nice 22" LCD

The E8400 and E8500 also run alot cooler than their 65nm equivalents which is good for overclocking.

8400 JUST ABOUT EVERY GOOD PC SHOPS AND 100% OF DECENT SUPPLIERS

8500 not here yet but soon

8500 is waste though its 116mhz faster and costs about 500 bucks more

Thanks killa, Take2 have them, but Sybaritic don't have them listed yet.

Try computersonly or over on one of the other local forums there is specials on the new range of cpus

Okay so the question is E8400 or Q6600?
Considering he is building a gaming pc and is probably going to have it for a while - which one is better?

well rocket i sold my quaddie for this cpu and im very happy

corel and gaming is better

nothing will use all four cores in the next year i would say

plus the e8400 oc's to 4ghz and over

with my quaddie i was 17s in 1m superpi with this cpu clocked at 4.0ghz im doing it in 11s

for single core apps which most apps are apart from photoshop which can only use 2 cores it does not make sense to go quadcore for the moment if your looking for single core speed

phone sybaritic they will have stock you will just need them to update the website

im surprized that have not because these e8400 are selling like hot cakes

Quad core is only for people who "megatask"

like encoding video while playing games while hosting a DC server.

Sybaritic is suffering under load sharing and is not prepared to take action to sort it out. They have already lost my business :)

Anyone have any clues on the temp issues with the E82 and E8400, no matter what cooling i use i get around 46 with stock settings.

p.s. Def go with the E8400 if not doing any encoding or rendering.

INTEL Core2 Duo E8400 - 3.00Ghz CPU - 6MB Cache - 1333Mhz FSB
R 1769.00 <-- not a bad price, only im used to supplier prices, or does computersonly constitute as a supplier? their prices seem quite good :)

hmmm,

INTEL Core2 Duo E8400 - 3.00Ghz CPU - 6MB Cache - 1333Mhz FSB
vs
INTEL Core2 Duo E8500 - 3.16Ghz CPU - 6MB Cache - 1333Mhz FSB

there is a .16 difference between the two, however there is a R760 price dif. is it worth it? paying an additional R760 for that .16 difference?

no it is not worth it, take 10 seconds in the bios and you have the same chip, take another 10 secs and you have a 4 gig chip for 1800 bucks :)

yea the 8500 is worth it i would say because i can get to around 4.8ghz with good cooling option

if you dont good cooling options dont bother just a waste of cash

What a stupid question!? No offence, but you even answered your own question, sheesh, ..hehe.

@Killa, ..why can't (theoretically) the 8400 do that? I can't believe that there is actually any physical difference between the two apart from a RIDIculously small 160MHz..
