Saru has lost several major sponsors, including long-term partners Absa, because of the slow pace of transformation, prompting its vice-president Mark Alexander to say: “I think it is a wake-up call for everybody. If we want to survive as a sport in this country we need to target the majority of the people. There are many sporting codes in the country and if we want to keep it attractive we need to appeal to the majority of the population and that is what we are trying to achieve.

Contrary to what you said Oom it would seem to be the other way round, you don't lose sponsors because of transformation you lose them because of the lack it.

That is an opinion that was tossed around - not based on any facts.

Chris Moerdyk agrees with me...

But, getting back to the nitty gritty, I am convinced that many of the world’s major sports bodies, such as SARU here in South Africa, have pushed their sponsorship rates far too high. So much so that companies such as Absa and BMW simply cannot justify being involved.

Agree. Let rugby reflect the realities of South Africa rather than make people believe in the pipe dream that those in charge doing their best.

was made by an unnamed source, and was reported as such by the Sunday Times in the past as well when ABSA withdrawn their sponsorship they had with the Currie Cup which was later corrected by both SARU and ABSA.

BMW has also withdrawn their sponsorship. It has been suggested that these sponsorship terminations are due to SARU pushing their sponsorship rates.
 
They want to win the WC but won't be selecting based on merit? Yeah good luck with that.

They already apply this policy to engineers at state owned companies.
The choice of a sports coach is pretty minor compared to the economic damage that is caused as a result ( Prasa's new trains are a case in point).
 
The rather lucrative super rugby and four nations financial deals will be at risk, the moment a weakened team is fielded.
 
Transformation is a synonym for racism let them **** it all up and cry later like they always do.
