Perplexing Error - need urgent help please.

I am in desperate need of help..
Here is a timeline of my issue;

DAY 1

Surf internet, check mail and listen to music.
Current WindowsXP SP3 machine working fine.
Switch off.
Go to bed.

DAY 2

Switch on PC.
After POST following error is displayed: "Disk Boot Error, please insert system disk"
Panic.
Inserted Hiren BootCD, and use utility to fix boot sequence.
Restarted PC.
PC boots prefectly fine into Windows - No issues observed.
Surf internet, Listen to music, watch Anchorman.
Switch off, and go to bed.

DAY 3

Parent switches on PC to check mail.
Just after POST, same error "Disk Boot Error, please insert system disk", is displayed.

Antivirus is fully up-to-date. Running Avast.

Core2 Duo E6420
2GB DDR667
ASUS P5NE-SLI
Seagate 250GB SATAII - Primary
Seagate 250GB SATAII - Secondary "Stuff" drive
HIS HD4850
Creative XtremeMusic
WindowsXP SP3 x86

No DVD's were present in DVD-Drive at time of issue.
Please help, anyone?

I have very important info on the machine.

Why did you use Hiren to fix the boot sequence, or rather what do you mean by "fix the boot sequence", or do you mean sector? What happens if you fix it again and run a chkdsk? Also try do a smart test with Hiren and see what happens, maybe your disk is buggered.
 
Can it be your bootup sequence in the BIOS?

Remove any memory sticks/external USB devices you might have plugged in.

No disks were connected. Nothing.

I used Hirem, because I couldn't find my XP CD.
Do I run fdisk /mbr in the command prompt?

I will run Chkdsk in Windows. Try.

Fail all this, I will backup mail etc. and install Win 7.

Sometime when Windows shuts down it will mess something up it gets corrupted.
Backup, format and reinstall are the standard actions. Sorry.

Dude just reload the pc or run a repair, installing windows 7 would be the smartest move in my opinion but either install xp fresh or run the repair, should solve the problem provided your hdd is not about to bite the big one.

Xp was a great OS but now it just seems so buggy compared.

Exactly.
I had Win 7 (6100), running very nicely, until programs started to be uninstalled automatically.
Weird. One day they there, next day they don't even appear in program files.
:confused:

So I installed XP, and regret it. Slower, and ugly. :(
