 is this about video conferencing, or is it about PCs on the same LAN or is it about PCs on the net not being able to 'see' one another?

By this do you mean that if you use the Explorer/"My Network Places"/etc. and you appear not to exist/can't see anyone else?

This says you're using TCP/IP: (natch :) ) so now, while you can't find/be found through the shell (Explorer) I presume that you can ping/be pinged?

Anyhow, having been bitten by something that sound a lot like this recently, I suggest you take a look at your network connection properties and, depending on what you see take one of two options:
- if 'Client for Microsoft Networks' is missing, install it
- if it IS there: remove it, bounce the machine, reinstall ..and see what happens.

Install File and Print Sharing. Make sure you have TCP/IP installed. Maybe run the network setup wizard [start>run>netsetup].

Steps to take:

Check that Client for MS Networks is installed.
Check that File and Print Sharing is installed.
Check that PC is on same domain or workgroup as other users.
IP is same range, as Warcraft is working, and so is browsing.
Check Windows Firewall is allowing the relevant protocols.

Obviously Ping is one of the most useful network tools ever. Use it.

Check to see if you can ping others, and if they can ping you. Maybe turn off Windows Firewall if you can't.

I'm too lazy to read from the beginning of this thread... Please can someone summarize all that has been done... :D

 N7.1

Hey.

Try installing Windows XP SP2 on your machine with the latest updates.

Can u perhaps ping most of the other addresses on the LAN? What the problem also could be is that no one have something shared (or the shared are not done correctly). Try Sharing something with full-accessed permissions.

Check also if your Network Connections services are running, and make sure that all the needed network services is running 100%.

Can u also provide us with a little bit more detail on ur network setup.

Thanx
