[Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

Can agree with @Gnome above on the use of a Shield. Got one too, and I dont really care what TV I've got since it doesn't matter. As mentioned here, Hisence can be pretty terrible on app support.
As long as the picture and lighting stats are up to the ball, it wouldn't matter to me.
(Not a Hisense owner, Samsung5lyf)

That is something strange that I had an issue with this past weekend as well, for some reason the CEC did not work at all from the TV's perspective. It does not integrate with my AMP or the media box, but the amp could at least control the media box when the media box goes via the amp..... That baffled me as well.

I do agree that the Nvidia shield is awesome, just don't have that kind of money to spend on one now lol, but definitely something to look at in the future.

I'm thinking on returning the Hisense, maybe just sit tight and see what is coming down the line later this year. And in the mean time save up some, maybe grab an Oled.

You have to enable CEC in the options menu of the TV. IIRC there was also something like CEC advanced options or HDMI advanced options, some sh#t like that. Enable

@Hisense SA
Our HE55A6100UWTS has lost the DSTV Now and Showmax apps - can't seem to find it on the app store either. Is there maybe a newer version of VIDAA that we can install / firmware update / firmware reset? Software version is currently VA002.01.00a.K0323
Thx a mil!

Quick question, which TV are you running at the moment though?

If it is one of the Hisense models, how does the Shield display on it? Is there any judder or motion stutter? Also, does CEC work for you? Are you able to switch your TV on/off from your shield remote?

Quick question
Quite a few questions but here we go
which TV are you running at the moment though?
65Q8600
If it is one of the Hisense models, how does the Shield display on it?
Fine. No problems
Is there any judder or motion stutter?
No, I use frame rate matching (on the Shield). On the TV I disabled all the features like judder reduction, motion blur and all that kind of crap. It makes your movies look like someone shot it with a camcorder in their Mom's basement.
Also, does CEC work for you? Are you able to switch your TV on/off from your shield remote?
Yes. I'm using CEC audio return channel to send audio to my receiver. And I turn the TV on with the CEC. However the HiSense TVs don't support being turned off by CEC so I setup the Shield Remote Blaster feature for power off.

Review from Mozamibique since we get South African units here.

Last week I went ahead and bought 55U7QF. The TV looked solid in store and I was excited by the reviews on this thread and avforums.
Brought it home, turned it on and it immediately asked me to download K1110 update. I went ahead and updated. Everything was fine until I turned off the lights at night and immediately noticed heavy backlight bleeding. Went to settings and played with local dimming, backlight and ultimately did a factory reset. Nothing helped. I started googling like crazy, looked up dirty screen effect samples, VA panel factory defects and this was definitely a defective panel.

So I went to the store and they kept the screen for 2 nights to "test". Eventually they called me to pick up a new TV, test it in store with the lights off until i'm satisfied and take it home.

This new panel is fantastic so far. The full array local dimming works well.

I noticed the Dolby Vision flicker in TV's native Netflix app but on Android TV box, the Netflix app works perfectly. Unfortunately this TV did not receive an update to version K1110, however I asked Hisense support to send me the latest update and they sent me version K0904. I have downloaded it (~2GB) this morning and will install it later today and report back,

Here's the response from Hisense support with link to download and password:

Please make us of link bellow http://hsekp.hisense.com/ekp/hisense/filedown/appendixShare.jsp?RandomCode=Sr89XX32my1614224607177

Please follow the below steps to update the software on your TV.

Copy the software file (.Bin File) to an empty USB that has been formatted to FAT32
Insert the USB into the TV
Press the settings button on your Remote
Go to settings
Go to Support
Go to Software Update
Go to update via USB
The Tv Will then Reboot.
When the TV switches on again:

Go to settings > Support > Restore to Factory Default

The TV will reboot again and when it starts up again you will be required to complete the setup wizard. Once done leave the TV on and connected to the internet for about five minutes. Then, unplug the TV from the power source and leave it unplugged for 2 minutes.
When you have switched the TV back on, Leave it on and connected to the internet for another 5 minutes and then test the apps.

The filename says HE55A6900FUWTS but the support person has confirmed that 55U7QF is the consumer model number and HE55A6900FUWTS is the internal model number. Fingers crossed.

I will upload the firmware to Mega/Google Drive and share the mirror here just in case the link goes down.

Have a great day everyone!

The panel on the first one you got was terrible... Glad to see its sorted.

As for the firmware, K1110 is newer than K0904 so I'm unsure as to why they sent you that particular file, especially since your previous tv, which is identical, downloaded K1110.

My Hisense tv can turn off with CEC. I have a mi box -> sound bar -> tv, I switch on/off the box, everything follows suit.

Managed to update the TV to K0904 succesfully.
Dolby Vision flicker is gone from native Netflix app and now there is a "Low Energy" local dimming mode.

The firmware zip contains 2 tar archives:
eMMCHisULED-HIS.tar.gz
MICALIDVB6886_U4_pkg_20200904.tar.gz

MICALIDVB6886_U4_pkg_20200904.tar.gz contains the actual .bin file. Just copy to a FAT32 formatted USB and start update from settings menu.

Uploaded the firmware to Mega, in case the hisense link in my previous post expires.

Also found a useful link on 4pda with tons of links, info and resources. Needs Google Translate to navigate (it's in russian). Leaving link here completeness and posterity.

Just got the K1112 update on my 55U7QF after updating to K0904 received from Hisense (Linked Above)

I followed advice from 4PDA to get the update.

1. Turn off "Fast Power On" from Settings > System > Advanced.
2. Turn off the TV and unplug from wall socket for ~30 mins.
3. Plug TV back in and turn it on. Make sure the WiFi is connected.
4. Go to Settings and check for update. It should show up.

55U7QF vs 55U8QF? Heard some issues with the U8QF? Looking to buy either one of these.
If the U8 (real life quality) is all better than the U7 I would prefer to take it.

How does this LG compare to the Hisense TVs above?

The main differences between these models are more local dimming zones, peak Brightness and refresh Rate.

- U8QF has more local dimming zones that will give you deeper blacks and less of the "halo" effect around the objects. It really depends on how sensitive of a viewer you are to tell the difference. You will really have to look for this "halo" effect to find it, mainly in demo videos or viewing from a steep angle. Everyday viewing won't be affected as such.

- According to Rtings/Avforums, you need at least 400nits peak brightness to see the HDR effect (deep blacks/bright brights on the same picture). U7QF comes in at 700nits and U8QF at 1000nits. Peak brightness also helps in very bright rooms (like a store) and if your TV is not placed in a very bright room or directly front of a window, the U7QF is plenty bright.

- The 120Hz refresh rate in U8QF is ideal for PC gaming or the few games that are supported on consoles. Outside of that 120Hz is (almost) never used for movies and general video content.

Thanks for the reply, the 55U8QF sounds very nice on paper, but I heard because of the cheap panels it doesn't look that great. Also mentions of motion issues with fast moving scenes (sports, games).
I actually just want to know which are the top pics for a price range between R12k - R16k.

I personally went with 55U7QF because I did not see a huge difference between the two and there is feature parity i.e. HDR10+, Dolby Vision, etc it's all there.

The motion judder, dolby vision flashes etc were firmware / settings issues that seem to be all fixed in the last few updates.

You other options in that price range are LG Nano, Samsung TU or Q60 series if you're willing to push your budget a little. But then again, these are all mid / mid-high end TVs and they all cut back on some features somewhere compared to top of the line TVs (LG CX, Samsung Q90, Sony X series). My advice would be to understand your usage and making compromises accordingly to get the best bang for your buck.

As for Hisense, U7QF is my first Hisense TV after decades of Samsung and I'm quite please with it (so far). Picture is sharp, HDR movies and Xbox Series X games pop on the screen.

Thanks, this helps a lot. I had the Hisense 55" B8000, I think for its price it was great. I have to say the thing I like about the Hisense TVs is that they support most of the audio video formats. Dolby Vision, Atmos, HDR10+, etc.
I think I will still decide between the U8QF and the LG Nano. I would really like the LG OLED55CX, but damn that is getting expensive for a TV in my books.
