I cant comment on the U8G but I have a 65U8QF and a 65U7QF. The U8QF is a lovely tv! Its very bright, UI is relatively fast and the blacks are impressive. The built in soundbar is muuuch better than any built in TV speakers I've heard. The U7QF is also a good tv but I just feel that for a few thousand extra the U8QF is more worth it as the extra bump in brightness is and local dimming performance is noticeable. Gaming is fine on them but TBH I havent spent hours gaming on either as I have an LG OLED at my primary residence and use that the most. I will say that both the U8QF and U7QF have froze while on YouTube and did require me to turn the power off at the wall to reset the TV. Other than that I just changed the kak remote that came with them to a more premium feeling one. IF the only change between the U8QF and the U8G is VRR, ALLM and eARC, and the U8G cant do 4k 120hz, and you dont require eARC, go for the cheaper U8QF. I picked mine up for R13999 at Hirsch
thanks! this really helps, so the U8G would mostly be better for gaming it sounds like. I'm gaming on a monitor most of the time so all the extras don't really bother me, eARC might be a nice to have for my AVR, but when I'm watching something where I want the best quality, I'll do it through my PC anyways which is plugged directly into the AVR. Is blooming really noticeable on the 65U8QF in a dark room?

That is an entry level model TV.
i contacted Hisense, guy advised it was a standard feature on all Hisense TVs lol when i took the pics to show its not there he went all quiet. Think i should look into the warranty regarding this.

Nope don't think warranty, it's an entry level TV, my first Hisense was an entry level and it was missing features.

well then i will hold them to it as on the box of the tv it says game mode and on the website

Can anyone comment on how the 65U8QF handles subtitles? Do you get blooming or screen brightness changes?

It seems like the Samsung's built in Netflix app does some magic to avoid this, but using an external media player, they do have issues.

I use subtitles a lot, and brightness changes will be a pain...

Was really looking forward to the U8G, but it seems like the version we're getting in SA is not the same as the one in the US.

VIDAA vs Android, is that a problem? What other features does it lack? Do I really need to get this TV if I mainly watch Netflix and want to play a casual game every now and then? If I have a Mibox S, will that compensate for the lack of Android TV?

I saw the U8QF at Makro and I was impressed, but from what I read it has some not-so-minor issues, still a good option?

How does the Samsung AU8000, Q60A and Q80T compare?

My budget is R20k max, would appreciate any and all input, thanks!

People focus too much on the software but to be honest you need to get an external player regardless of what tv you get, the built in ones will get slow over time .

The AU8000 and Q60 are low end TVs, they are priced way too high for what you get(which isn’t much at all) forget about HDR content on those TVs, it will be dull and washed out, they just don’t have the nits to display it properly, The Q80T will be much better as it also has FALD which the other two Samsungs don’t, however it also falls short of displaying HDR as good as the hisense, seems it’s been tested at the highest peak brightness of 700nits, the hisense will have 1000nits. Also forget about Dolby vision on any Samsung Tv.

Biggest problem on the hisense is motion handling, it’s simply not good enough unfortunately, if I had paid anything over R12k for my 55U8QF I think I might have returned it due to motion blur on very fast moving objects, it’s not always there though, but I only paid R7800 for it so I am keeping it until it’s time for a new Tv. The Q80T will definitely have better motion handling.

So if I were you, I would get a U8QF and an Apple TV, best combo ever, the Apple TV will greatly enhance your viewing experience with the tv and you will probably still have R5k change. (You may ewallet me if it’s burning a hole in your pocket)

I have the 55 and there is definitely blooming, even when I press info on my remote to display current play back speeds and quality on Netflix there is blooming in that area, it’s not hectic though,

I don’t quite understand about the screen brightness changes, what do you mean by that, any examples maybe?

Will we ever get the OLED they made? Its been available in Europe since September, considering we get the same gimped versions of their 2021 line up Europe gets, its only fair.

Does it say game mode on the box? And the box is the same model?
all features displayed on the box and im sure they did not give me the wrong box. a buddy with non smart 32" hisense almost 10 years old has game mode on lol

My old Hisense LEDN50D36P was from 2014 and didn't have a game mode, luckily the lag wasn't bad, it was also their entry level TV, it made up for the good picture quality, but it's actual things you could adjust were limited.
The more expensive 58N5 I got had Game mode and the U7QF I've got has it, but the cheaper models I've seen don't.
But if it's on the box, I would ask for a refund as it's false.

Get the U8QF, great discounts on it at the moment, spec wise its similar to the U8G, only a few differences. IF you want good UI just get an apple tv.
think I might, the UI doesn't bother me too much, for the occasional youtube and Netflix show it gets the job done. Just might not be buying such a big item from takealot again, I bought my b7100 through them and the anxiety of repacking and handing over a 65" tv because of a silly problem like the backlight dimming even though I have auto-dimming switched off was too much for me 2 years ago. So I'll rather buy from somewhere in P.e if I can so that I can take the tv back myself if there's a problem.

Yeah just look for discounts daily, you will find the right tv at the right price.

I returned 2 Hisense Q8600’s to Takealot. No mess, no fuss. It was within the 30-day window and they fetched and refunded. It’s why I would buy another TV from them.
