[Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

Does anyone else have issues with Dolby vision on their Hisense?

I have the Apple TV 4k connected to my U8QF connected via a receiver and the Hisense loses Dolby Vision when it comes out of standby. I have to re plug the Hisense HDMI cable for the Dolby Vision to re appear

A lot of people are relying on the TV built in media player functionality and IMO you will always get a lesser experience.
TV companies are focused on making TVs.
When you buy a media player they have actual development team constantly improving that product because that is the product they are trying to sell and continue to sell.
But companies making TVs offer a lot of models and as new models come out, there is literally not incentive to improve the older product.
This isn't just unique to TVs it is universal for hardware companies.

Set yourself up for success and don't use a TVs integrated media player and you will have a better experience

I'm using a nVidia Shield and with the Hisense and haven't had a day of trouble.
What kind of problems were you having?
Yeah ran into the problem of the VIDAA media player on my A6G not being able to play certain mp4 formats. Guess I will have to get some sort of android tv equivalent. Any price effective recommendations?

I mean, I didn't try save money on the media player so went with nVidia Shield which I can highly recommend.
I went from having a NUC which required constant babying to nVidia shield which is plug and play and simple as can be.
Before the nVidia shield my GF struggled to navigate the TV, with the shield it was super easy.

So in my mind, the maybe R2k extra wasn't worth the saving of potentially more effort.

But I'm sure you can probably get that with cheaper media players too.

On the other hand it was a requirement, in my mind, to have support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision
Additionally I didn't want to have to hack or root or weird things to work.
I've never had any problems like that.
All the Dolby integrations just worked.

Stark difference from what I had before.

Best do some googling before you buy.
Like google the set-top you want to buy plus some keywords.
So I did "nVidia shield pro dolby vision netflix" and looked at how many people experienced problems and were they solved.

If they weren't I wouldn't have bought it.

@epah you legend!!
Purchased the LG C1 today. Stunning tv and picture quality.
So happy with my purchase.

Thanks

I really wanted a 65 inch C1 but sucks that it's still double the price of the 55 inch model in SA. Just isn't worth it imo. In a few years OLED will be phased out in favour of QD-OLED. Hopefully by then larger screen sizes will become more affordable.

for 50k i would want a 100inch TV

i have a bottom of the range hisense 65 and for me its perfect

gaming is very good on normal 4k

now i know they say once you go 120hz its another game

but i wont want to spend so much on that size tv

Agree price difference doesn’t make sense. Extremely happy with mine.

Oled wont be phased out, However they will get cheaper. Same way UHD lcds and Quantum dot LCDs co-exist.

How is the TCL range of TV's compared to Hisense, because they are very similar in price and features, but what i do like about them, is that they run ANDROID OS as standard.
Any thoughts.

for anyone else with a similar issue, disabling standby (forcing the TV to do a full restart on power on) solves this at the expense of the TV taking about 8s to startup

I have a 55 inch LG Oled and it great but it’s still 55 inches and the increase in price to the 65 is just not worth it. Don’t even talk about the 83 inch model at over 130k.

But when it comes to waiting for price drops it’s a case of chasing a rainbow. When the manufacturers hit economies of scale wirh OLED like they have with LCD it will be cheap but then the next advance in tech will be out and you won’t crave the OLED anymore. People will still buy it but will look longingly over at the new tech like LCD owners now look at OLED and QD OLED. You never reach the rainbow.

They make decent TVs but the ones that are available at the moment are meh IMO, no local dimming on any of the models currently available and brightness is comparable to entry-level Hisense 4k TVs.
If they launch the newer models with Mini-LED tech it will be a different story though.

I just bought the entry level P615 for the bedroom. I have the Hisense Q8600 as my main TV. Will compare and comment next week.

UPDATE: I think I found the probelm, and I'm curious if you guys have also come accross this weird bug:

I currently own two Hisense TV's - a 55" Q8600 and a 55" U7QF. Unfortunately, neither supports Disney+ so I had to buy an external Android TV box. No matter the HDMI source (and I've tried multiple devices), the TV seems to get "stuck" in the BT.2020 color space after viewing HDR content, and then proceeds to apply BT.2020 to everything ... the UI, SDR (BT.709) content, the lot. It doesn't switch between applicable colour spaces at it should.

This causes the whole picture, to get over-saturated in the red channel. This is very noticeable on skin tones and other scenes where BT.709 is expected, but BT.2020 is applied ... and there's no way to actually manually force the HDMI input either way. Changing the output from the Android box doesn't help either, save for using HDR to SDR mode, but that defeats the purpose of having an HDR capable device, and also it makes content look really ugly.

The problem is on the TV's side, and the only way to "reset" the picture back to BT.709, is to either pull the HDMI cable out and replug it, or to go into the Hisense menu and change the picture profile to something else, and then change it back again ... that seems to trigger a BT.2020 to BT.709 switch-over, but it's quite cumbersome to have to do this every time.

I already flashed the TV firmware with the latest M0222 build, but that didn't solve the problem. I've written to Hisense support, so hopefully they'll come back to me, or the @Hisense rep here, if still active.
I think flashing M0518 might have solved this issue for me. I will continue to test for a few days and let you know if it is indeed fixed.

As a side note, motion handling is a lot better on M0518 compared to the ancient K1112 firmware my TV was stuck on previously.

Dear Hisense community. I purchased a q8600 2 years ago. It had very noticable dirty screen effect and very noticable blooming(but I think this is just Hisense). After an update it had severe motion issues. More specifically judder, black borders and red ghosting. I sent it to hisense they said it is a panel issue and recommended a refund because of no stock. They were not specific about what was a panel issue. I refunded it and got the u8g. The u8g have acceptable motion( no black borders but still some judder) but the red ghosting is still there. It also has dirty screen effect but looks less severe BUT it causes some vertical banding sometimes (i suspect or its the motion processing).@Hisense or anybody else, can you tell me if this is a panel, board or software problem ? Does anybody even have a problem free set? Would highly appreciate some answers. If left unanswered, I would do an exchange and if the problem persists I would have to save up and go for the LG OLED.

Has any one been able to make any further contact about Disney+ on Vidaa models of TV I remember @StoneCold you originally got somewhere but I feel this is starting to stagnate and the Disney support is completely useless.

Yeah, I emailed Hisense support via the local Hisense website. You're welcome to send them a mail too about it, but I guess they'll still mention that its still in development and that they are working with Disney+ to bring it to life ASAP.

Motion processing is Hisense's Biggest downfall. Exchange the TV and get the LG C1. its pure bliss.

I have seen red ghosting once on my U8QF, never happened again.

Been using the TCL for 3 days now. Loadshedding has been bad though. The picture quality reminds me of the Samsung series 7. Plain TV, average brightness, images and words look soft. The Android software is very fluid though. I will not be needing a TV Box. Kodi works smoothly. The remote is tall yet everything is squashed! It's just an average TV usable by "normal people".

So it took me 2 Years to figure out that my Hisense HDR TV was never setup correctly to use HDR.

I'm quite a Tech enthusiast but kinda feel dumb now. As I normally use the native Netflix, Youtube App I was under the impression it will kick in HDR when needed.

I then noticed a setting I have never seen, that can only be switched on when using HDMI ( HDMI enhanced) feeling kinda dumb now. I was watching all my HDR content on the Plex app in this weird gray look.

So the only way to get my HDR to work is to use an Xbox Series S with the HDMI enhanced mode switched on and then I can watch Youtube, Plex and Netflix content with the correct HDR colors.
