If there are any Kodi/Xbmc gurus out there, please tell me how i can have my own personal library in Kodi.

I recently bought and Android box with Kodi installed (fully loaded), enjoying the streaming abilities so far, but I bought it as a replacement for my dying WD TvLive which has my hdd connected with a ton of films etc. I have not been able to successfully connect the hdd to the android box as yet, nor create my own library in Kodi as the system doesn't seem to recognise it. not sure whether its the format of the hdd?? Its in HFS+ (Mac os), but have also tried a flash drive in the exfat format and still no luck. What am I missing, or is this just meant to be a streaming TV box?

Strange, I just connected my external HDD and a NAS drive, and it works flawlessly.
Did you try to add your HDD/NAS as a source in kodi?

What do you mean own personal library? Once you have configured a source/s in kodi it can sort your collection into TV and Movies. If you want to get more granular than that and have Kids Movies for example you will have to use favorites.

You have to format your HDD to fat32 or get Paragon exFAT app to be able to use HFS/exFAT/NTFS drives.

Honestly, the best would be to get either a NAS drive or a NAS adapter for your current HDD and run it over the network.
That way more than one device can access the movies at a time over the LAN.

Why dont you just set up a plex server for your hard drive

Sounds similar to the mygica system I have. If so, just plug in external HDD tell the library app where your movies are and update. Didn't matter what format the drive is it should be able to scan them.

Thanks for the all feedback guys! I still haven't managed to successfully add it as a source when connected via usb directly, though I have managed to add it via the network as the hdd is still connected to the WDTV (usb), and i can see everything and stream it seamlessly. I reckon p00hb33r is right, best would be a NAS, so gotta start setting that up. The paragon app hasn't worked for me, it gives some schpeel about the device not being rooted and therefore doesn't work...
