Petrol attendants to strike

How about offering a summary and/or opinion instead of just posting links?
 
This is simply hillarious! I've got no problem to fill up my car at a service station - they can strike as long as they want.

Indeed - overseas its the norm. If it wasnt for the unemployment aspect I'd be happy to do away with the attendants altogether in exchange for lower pump prices (or offer it as a premium service).

When moklet or anyone else is the owner/founder/administrator of a forum he/she can do as they please.

Until then please add a summary or opinion to stories on external sites.

(I also get the impression that the system used here is automated.)

Honestly, attendants can go fsck themselves. Looks like a bicycle will be the order of the day.
 
Everybody seems to be striking lately, its getting quite ridiculous.

Petrol attendants are in any case a make-jobs scheme. I think I'll manage to get out my car and push the hose into the tank before I go the drastic route of trading in my shiny red car for a bicycle.
 
Its getting totally ridiculous...

Like kingrob said, I have no problem pumping petrol myself into my car.

As for unionised mechanics... oh well shame for them, I do most of the work myself ANYWAY, and for the more complicated stuff, I have a mechanic who isn't part of any union.
 
perhaps the public should also go on strike and refuse to pay any and all telecommunications money to Telkom/Vodacom/MTN/Cell C etc etc etc...
 
Certainly the petrol attendants positions create good sustainable employment for many, this is a good.
At the local service station down the road I get on very well with the attendants.
We always have a lekker chat and when I drive into the forecourt they are most obliging and Betsy (my car) gets the royal treatment.
I like it.
Sure we can manage without them as other countries do and go the self service route, but why would we want to.

Cheaper pump prices?
 
Offset by more unemployment, resulting in a social support levy plan that ends in paying the same amount, but getting nothing for it. I'll go with the minimal service, if it's all the same to you.

So will I - I have no problem with the current arrangement.
 
Only thing that worries me, is that the striking workers might get nasty when you fill up your own car - it happens time & time again.

Hopefully they won't actually be at work, otherwise I'll go to the garage which is smart enough to provide security for its customers.
