Petrol hike....again

You surprised?

GP the petrol needs to be brought in from the coast.

Then surely it should cost even more in Limpopo and North West than it does in Gauteng.

And let's not forget to factor in Sasol, who are really not that far from Jhb.

Why the hell is it 30c more expensive in Gueteng??

Even living down here, petrol increases by 1 cent for every 10 km from Durban. I am 50 km south and pay 5cents more. "Transport" costs help fill government coffers very successfully!

Thats the official line. When you consider though that its that price *everywhere* except in one small province then it starts looking might sketchy. Hell I'm pretty sure the costs to Gauteng are actually far lower than other non-coastal areas because of the better roads & large scale logistics (Not to mention a few pipe lines).

Once again Transport costs are used to hide a multitude of sins, as, I stand corrected, but SASOL actually makes up over 90% of GP fuel, so transport costs shouldn't even be a factor.

Agee, by the same definition we Gautengers should pay way less for Sasol than the coasters, but it doesn't work that way now does it?

Guys I think you missing the point 30c difference is because of the pipe which is built between JHB and DBN:whistle:

So why won't they be paying more in Limpopo and North West? Why is it only Gauteng?

Nope
Far less, between 50-60%. Natref makes the the rest from crude while 1 or 2% of fuel is also delivered up.
New pipeline must also be factored. Though Sasol could build another plant, govt does not like them and would prefer the pipeline (crude product).

What I find funny is how people flock to petrol stations to fill up the night before the increase. Have they stopped for a minute to work out exactly how much they save on a tank of cheaper petrol? With the 17c increase looming, I will save a ridiculous R6-80 if my 40l tank is completely empty and I fill up the night before.
Is that really worth the aggravation of waiting in a line, breathing petrol fumes, while people don't think twice to pay R20 a beer at clubs?
Idjits.

So glad I can use public transport. Just bought my Park-n-ride bus ticket from Somerset West to Cape Town CBD for next week (5 days) for R88. Will cost me R88 per day if I used the car.

Looks like reliable public transport is going to become more popular now. Sadly the words "reliable" & "public transport" is seldom found in the same sentence outside of the Cape, viva Le Western Cape, viva!

Sure every time. Most cars have 50l tanks & increases are often way more than 17c. So it can be more like R15. R15 vs ~R2 it costs to get to the station.

During office hours there isn't much of a queue....worst case you go the day before. Besides its only after 16:00 when all the business people wake up that is problematic.

The department of energy said global prices for petrol diesel and oil had increased although the rand had remained strong against the dollar.

Translated - We have to give the workers increases in their salaries.
