Its too early for the numbers to be out..

They don't have even vaguely accurate over-recovery/under-recovery figures just yet.

Standard procedure, they do it every time, not just with petrol but all price increases, electricity, e-trolls, you name it. I can't believe people still fall for it.

1. Announce massive increase to incite rage.
2. Later reduce the increase to the amount they actually had planned all along.
3. Boiling frogs think they are getting some relief/wise and benevolent government has heard their pleas and is doing them a massive favour
4. We still get f*d in the a* but are "glad it's not so bad"
5.???
6. Profit!!!

A reliable source whose info is usually spot on has confirmed a massive hike..

Well the daily underrecovery towards the end of january was in the region of 80-90c/l - the rand has not strengthened or oil gone down since then so I can totally believe this

LOL. when has the petrol price ever worked like that?

This bloody ANC is going to kill us

SA is an ant in the global economy. They have zero influence on the price of oil and the Rand price has too many variable for them to be able to infuence it meaningfully. E.g. the stoopid N. Korean nuclear test caused a dip in the rand value... are they responsible for that?

You got to remember that in SA the price of oil is still pretty cheap relative to other developed nations.

A lot of the Rand's value comes down to direct inbound foreign investment. When people are investing in SA, the rand strengthens. When they pull out, selling rands essentially, it weakens. The ANC's investor-unfriendly stance is the reason why the rand is where it is.

I wont be surprised every time I go on a long trip in my 5km/l petrol burner the price increases allot.

I'm planning a 2500km trip end of march. R6570 just for fuel makes me a sad panda.
