Johannesburg - The retail price of petrol will increase by between 31c and 36c per litre, depending on the grade, on Wednesday April 1, the department of Minerals and Energy announced on Friday.

This follows an increase of 45c a litre last month and 61c the previous month.

93 octane will increase by 36c and 95 octane by 31c a litre, the department said.

Diesel prices will also increase, with both 0.05% and 0.005% sulphur going up by 39.5c per litre.

Wholesale paraffin however will decrease by 5c and illuminating paraffin by 7c per litre.

Petrol in Gauteng now costs 738c a litre from 707c before, and it is now 714c at the coast from 683c before.

During the period under review, the average international product prices of Petrol, Diesel and Illuminating Paraffin decreased.

The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate weakened when compared to the previous period. The average Rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period February 27 2009 to March 26 2009 was R10.0655 compared to R10.0602 during the previous period.

I want to join the ANC so that I'll be in their gravy train.

Which means the petrol price technically came down by 10c and then was taxed a further 45c to give about 35c increase :/

Actually if you read the "shell price" thread, you will see that the price is going up because of fuel and road levy not the actual fuel itself.

So yes, spitting on the ANC is fully justified. PTOAH!

...you must return the income tax relief you received this month, thanks to the ANC you want to spit on (you ungrateful %$%$^$^&) :D

Tax releif is fair due to inflation and the value of our money decreasing.

Adding 30-40c more on fuel to increase levies for RAF and others is stupid. Rather a mandatory insurance policy ( at minumum third party which is like R100 a month ) would be better according to the letter of the intentions of said levies.

And to track it ? Simple, insurance companies must issue a certificate every year which must be shown when you renew your cars license. But then again we all know how *honest* our RAF is. :D

*Edit* Anyone know the actual breakdown? ie fuel = oil + refinery + levy ?

FOR F*C* SAKES, the price per barrel is at its lowest, the USD exchange rate has dropped off. Let me guess , someone needs to fund the election and maybe a couple Mercedes Benz and some holidays.

Exactly, funny thing a mate was at design quarter yesterday or Saturday. He sees an ANC election thing going on there outside. He then sees 2 guys in a Bentley cabriolet, one guy wearing a SACP shirt, the other a ANC one.
Seems communism does in fact seem to work.
Let me guess - pics or it didnt happen?

Surely the ANC do enough actual incompetent things to slate them over?

Did you lot cheer the ANC on a job well done when the petrol price cam down?

how about we stop renaming streets and subsidize the cost of petrol?
the prices of every else drops if the petrol price stays down...

Given that the price came down because the bottom fell out of the oil market due to reduced demand, and had nothing to do with the ANC at all, in contrast to this price increase being due to additonal levies and so being added to the price we pay, I think you'll find the answer is......

No.

No I didnt because I knew that it would be short lived and that they would increase it again in a few months and I was attacked for saying that, you are more than welcome to search for the post.
