What the hell are you doing with a Diners card? Must be the most useless bloody method of payment around. Hardly anybody accepts Diners cards anymore, nevermind petrol stations.

i don't know any petrol stations that accept any form of credit card (for petrol payment that is)
afaik it is against regulations.
debit cards have only recently started to gain traction.
garage cards can be used and linked to an account which has an overdraft.

Thought so till I confirmed it with my boet in law who owns a Petrol station. The law was passed a year ago that allowed Credit Cards and Debit Cards as a legal form of payment.

While its not illegal for a retailer to charge extra for Credit Card purchases, it is a contract breach between the retailer and the Credit Card vendor. Also its illegal to discount or charge more than the variance allowed on retail price of petrol. Main reason why few places accept Credit Cards as they are loosing all their profit and some have to pay in.

Thats why a Petrol Card works differently.

I remember using it once at a SASOL somewhere around Buccleuch in Joburg, they did accept it there.

It is however not compulsory to accept diners cards, The cost the store, station more than other cards in charges, so even more shops wont accept them. there is after all master & visa cards.

Not forgetting the beautiful lounge they have at the airports
