pfSense PPPoE Issues

The settings look correct to me. The log doesn't however provide much information on what is wrong.

Have you tried switching interfaces (move WAN to LAN and visa versa)?

yup... tried that, but even less of a result... :( could not access the PFSense box, and no internet connection... swapped the cables back and all except for internet was sorted.

Since it's still a new build I'd start over TBH, might be something that went wrong during installation.

yup yup Efitol. Going to give that a shot when I get the chance in any case... The HDD in that box seems to have packed up and is now throwing smart errors at me...

So, for those of you that were wondering what the outcome of this all was: it turns out that pfSense/FreeBSD really does not like the onboard NIC on that motherboard.

Original setup:
LAN - Intel PCI Gigabit NIC - Static IP
WAN - Onboard VIA 100mbps NIC (Piece of #@$%) - PPPoE

When everything was set up like this, I had no issues with accessing pfSense via it's IP, but PPPoE was still not functional at all.

In desperation, I decided to try and swap the interfaces around (at least for testing).

New setup:
LAN - Onboard VIA 100mbps NIC - Static IP
WAN - Intel PCI Gigabit NIC - PPPoE

Unfortunately, this still did nothing, except that now I could not even access the pfSense web UI.

Due to this I am under the suspicion that pfSense/FreeBSD just refuses to work with the onboard NIC. Looks like its time to get another PCI card.

And after having added a third NIC to the box and disabling the onboard, all my issues are gone. PPPoE works correctly, I have internet working.

Now to figure out how to get SQUID and Shaping working properly along with all the other cool stuff pfSense allows one to do...
