Hi guys,

Recently got to setting up a pfSense box, but can not get a stable PPPoE connection. Setup is as follows:

Everything is plugged in and hooked up correctly, but I keep getting the following in the PPP logs:

I have also made sure that the 2750 is working in bridge mode, by plugging it directly into a laptop network port and successfully dialling out a PPPoE connection.

Please could any of you guru's try and advise me on what I could be doing wrong here :)

Remove "Afrihost" from the "Service name" field on this page (leave it blank) and try again.

tried that, still no success. should either of the MTU values (WAN and PPP) be filled in? what values should I have there?

My gut feel is that your pfsense box is trying to dial pppoe on the wrong ethernet interface. Try swapping the cables between port 1 and 2 and see if you get a connection. If you do, there's misconfiguration somewhere.

nope... got the ADSL router connected to the onboard 100mb adapter (its a really old school P4 motherboard) and the connection to the network is a cable running from an Intel 1gigabit PCI network.

triple checked that everything is wired up correctly.

In a last ditch attempt to get this working, I have tried the following config:
Set router to PPPoE, made sure it connects. Set its IP to 192.168.1.1/24
Connected a pc to this, set IP manually and ensured the internet connection was up. Disconnected.
Set the WAN interface on pfSense to 192.168.1.2/24 static IP
Specified that 192.168.1.1 was the upstream gateway.

still no luck :(

Does the router have a dedicated WAN port? If so is it connected to this port?

nope... only got 4 x identical ethernet ports on the back, labeled 1-4...

Bridge mode does definitely work though, given how I was able to dial out from a Windows PC.

*bump* still have nto managed to get this working. No matter what I do, the pfSense box just doesn't see an internet connection :(

Under PPPs config, should you not choose the actual WAN link perhaps?

(Never worked with PFSense but that looks like it will try to dial out over whatever adapter you choose there, or not?)

Well, if you look at the screenshot titled Interfaces: PPP (Edit) you will see that I have interface VR0 selected as the active interface for this connection, unless I am misunderstanding you somewhere...

also in the first screenshot (Interfaces: Assign Network Ports) that the WAN interface has the PPPoE(VR0) connection selected as the active one.

The settings look correct to me. The log doesn't however provide much information on what is wrong.

Have you tried switching interfaces (move WAN to LAN and visa versa)?
